Grant Burge Winemakers Selection Shiraz

The Grant Burge Winemakers Selection Shiraz is of one of our favourite full-bodied, Barossa Valley Shiraz's. Pepperjack Sangiovese

A medley of dark red cherry, cranberry and ripe raspberries, warm spice and hints of mocha. The palate is rich and structured showing, bright fruits with silky and plush tannins which give length and finesse while finishing soft and full of flavour.

Cape Jaffa The Aura Mount Benson Cabernet Franc

Cape Jaffa was a pioneer both in the Mt Benson region and in terms of its focus on biocynamics and sustainability. The first of the Mount Benson wineries,Cape Jaffa’s fully certified biodynamic vineyard provides 50% of production, with additional fruit sourced from a certified biodynamic grower in Wrattonbully. This is a lovely drop for warmer weather. As Shanteh Wale says in The Halliday Wine Companion, this is “made for drinking and good times. Serve slightly chilled" but it is not without complexity. "Blackberries, prune, plums and thistle. Picked oregano, margoram and green olive.”

Massolino Barolo Parussi

The 2015 Parussi is bursting with lovely juicy, wild forest fruit and grenadine notes underpinned by an intense, mineral freshness and fresh walnut-like tannins. A beautiful Barolo that closes with a super long, mint-and-lavender-and-cherry-scented finish. The iron-rich, 'blue clay' soils here are a little lighter, more oxygenated, with more silt and less clay than Serralunga. This makes for more vigour in the vines and a completely different style of wine. The Massolino family were attracted by the excellent south-easterly and south-westerly exposure of the vines, the vineyard's situation at 300 metres above sea level on the crest of the hill, and the 45-year-old vines. Today, they are the only Barolo producer to bottle a single vineyard wine from this cru. A traditional Barolo, 15-20 days of fermentation and maceration at 31-33°C; aged in oak barrels for about 30 months and left to mature in bottles placed in special dark, cool cellars for about a year. Founded in 1896, Massolino Winery, is based in and around the town of Serralunga, one of the prime sub-zones of the Barolo DOC. The Massolino familys greatest asset is of course their 23 hectares of (mostly) Serralunga vineyards, including choice parcels of such famous sites as; Margheria, Parafada and the legendary Vigna Rionda. We say mostly as the Massolino clan recently purchased a slice of the Parussi cru in Castiglione Falletto. Serrralunga, on the eastern edge of the Barolo DOCG, produces some of most profound and long lived Barolo. It is the home of great names such as Giacomo Conterno and Bruno Giacosas Falletto vineyard. The wines often have an extra stuffing of intense Nebbiolo fruit as well as a remarkable minerality that plays on both the freshness of the tannins and gives the wines a certain ferrous edge when young. It is fair to say that Massolino holds the most remarkable collection of vineyards in Serralunga, amongst the smaller, quality focused producers anyway. The quality strides at this estate over the last 10-15 years have been remarkable with significant advances made, particularly in the vineyards. Certainly there has also been refinements in the cellars, firstly by Franco Massolino and then by current winemaker Giovanni Angeli (ex Vajra) who has been working with Franco since the 2005 harvest. As always however, it has been the work in the vineyards and the search for expressive and perfectly ripe fruit that has driven the rise in quality at this estate. The resultant improvement here has been very good news for both the commune and Barolo in general. Today the wines of Massolino sit comfortably among the finest of the region they are wines of wonderful purity and elegance. They are exclusively aged in large casks, so they are traditional and yet they offer the best of the old and new worlds: pure, aromatic, textural, deeply flavoured wines that are at the same time precise, vibrant and distinctly regional. These are wines that score extremely highly on our deliciousness scale. Equally important, these wines are remarkably well priced when compared to the other top producers of the area.

Morningside Pinot Noir

Product Information: Morningside produces Pinot and Chardonnay that's brimming with potential - powerful, redolent wines with rich colour and varietal typicity. The site is perched on peaty, rich soils, with a precious sliver of limestone. This will be the last Pinot Noir produced in the structured style Morningside Vineyard so strike while the iron is hot. This site is now in the capable hands of the neighbours at Pressing Matters. The 2019 Morningside Pinot Noir receives 10-20% whole bunches the fruit is given a four-day cold soak, followed by wild-yeast fermentation over 7-10 days. The wine is matured for 12 months in seasoned French oak barriques. Delicious dark fruit like blackberries and black currants complemented by a gentle mocha finish. Maker: Morningside Vineyard is located at Tea Tree in southeast Tasmania’s Coal River Valley wine region. Tea Tree is a 30-minute drive from Hobart (35 kilometres) and just a few kilometres from the historic village of Richmond. The name ‘Morningside’ was given to the old property on which the vineyard stands because it gets the morning sun; as you'd imagine the other side of the valley was known as Eveningside. Peter and Brenda Bosworth established the vineyard in 1980 the vineyard is planted to 2.8 hectares of vines, mostly to a selection of nine different clones of Pinot Noir. Over the years Morningside has consistently produced fine, elegant wines and was awarded Best Tasmanian Small Grower-Maker in Phil Laing’s detailed summary of the Tasmanian wine industry, Tasmanian Wines. Vineyard: Coal River Valley is one of Tasmania’s and Australia’s most picturesque and historical towns – the vineyards of Morning Side Vineyard (Now part of Pressing Matters) are producing Bungundian-like Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs in the fertile and lush soils of Coal River Valley. Overall, the Coal River Valley is responsible for about 13% of Tasmania’s wine production The Coal River Valley was part of the territory of the Oyster Bay, originally called Mumirimina by Indigenous people and became one of the earliest areas used by the first British settlers outside Hobart with Richmond established in the 1820s. Valued for its life giving river systems and nutritious soils, the first British settlers used the Valley as a mixture of grazing, pastureland and crop growing. Fast forward to today. The land is primarily used for slow-maturing, cool-weather grapes and while the area is still celebrated for its peaty, rich soils, there is a rare slither of limestone in the Valley upon which Morningside & Pressing Matters vineyards sit. .This limestone adds finesse, minerality and structure to the wines. Nose - Blackberries, Blackcurrants, Wood Spice Subtle briary, dark fruited with blackberries and ripe raspberries, vanilla and sandalwood. Palate - Dark Fruits, Earth, Mineral Fruit driven, chocolatey notes, fleshy with persistent acidity to balance. Finish - Powerful, Velvety, Mocha Warm fruity finish, complemented by a gentle mocha finish and fine tannins.
