It's from Allegiance Wines, an estate founded by Tim Cox whose love of wine and allegiance to the grape has seen him create a range of outstanding (and critically acclaimed) wines from premium regions around the country. Generous nose of blackcurrant, green capsicum, Kaffir lime and Thai curry spices. The powerful flavours direct you straight to Coonawarra: blackcurrant and cassis, with hints of menthol and cedar. Grippy tannins. Will age for at least 10 years. Scored 95pts from Wine Orbit and 96pts at the International Wine & Spirit Competition (along with a Great Gold). More Gold medals at the Melbourne International Wine Show and six other international wine competitions.

Handpicked fruit has been aged in French oak hogs heads and puncheaons to ensure the fruit was the dominant flavour and structure of the wine. On the nose layers of bright red and dark fruits greet you with perfume, spice and earth notes. This is followed by a complex and vibrant palate with a beautiful perfume. Layers of red currants and blueberries integrate with spice, underlayed with French vanilla bean and some earthy notes. It has waves of fine grained chalky tannins and a long finish.

It is sweetly fragrant and instantly appealing on the nose showing dark and purple fruit aromas together with tar, game, cocoa and spicy oak nuances. The palate is rich, intense and fleshy, displaying excellent power as well as rounded mouthfeel, wonderfully complemented by velvety texture and silky tannins. Coonawarra's Parker Estate ventures away from their home region with some parcels of fruit, occasionally making their way into small batch wines (hence the SBW on the label). This is a 68/32% Coona warra Shiraz/Malbec from the Barossa Valley, and is, according to Jane Faulkner in The Halliday Wine Companion, "A solid offering. The Malbec coming on strongly with its tobacco and dark-red-fruit spectrum... easy to enjoy... 93pts".
