Vasse Felix

Vasse Felix Tom Cullity Margaret River Cabernet Malbec

All blocks were destemmed only without crushing. Natural Ferment. The Petit Verdot, Malbec and 54% Cabernet Sauvignon (making up 54%) open fermented, hand plunged & pressed dry. The remaining 46% of the Cabernet & Malbec were static fermented, gently pumped over through a splash tub. Left on skins for up to 34 days. The small sections were basket pressed to fine French oak and matured for only 16 months.A complex nose of light red-berry jam notes with hints sage, teak, shortbread, peanut &blood orange. A very light yet plush palate with plummy notes, subtle teak, black tea & hints of clove. Fresh tangy length & fine but strong, powdery tannin finish.

Langton's Classification: Outstanding

Vasse Felix, Margaret River's founding wine estate, was established by Dr Thomas Brendan Cullity in 1967. Among his first plantings were Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec vines, from which he produced the estate's first red wine. The Tom Cullity descends from these original vines and represents the pinnacle of Vasse Felix. The inaugural release will be in May 2017, coinciding with Vasse Felix's 50th Anniversary.

Vasse Felix Tom Cullity

This wine is a great example of why Margaret River is such a powerhouse in the cabernet department: concentration, savoury tannins, spice, and plenty of fruit. Blend of Cabernet sauvignon/Malbec/Petit Verdot. Delicious from the first to the last sip, with its very long finish.
