Very fine persistent bead. Straw coloured and vibrant, fresh hue. Fruit aromas of pear flesh and grilled grapefruit intermingle with brioches and freshly baked sourdough. Light toasty elements and slight yoghurt notes add complexity and depth. The palate is creamy and textural with delicate web of acidity interwoven throughout. Cream, yeast, granny smooth apples and butter pastry flavours flow along before finishing with a preserved lemon-like tang.

Sourced from the Oakridge Vineyard, Winery Block. Planted in the grey alluvial loams of Coldstream in 1996 to a mixed clonal selection. This is very composed, intense and aromatic. Spicy black fruit - blackcurrant and blackberry, hints of creme de cassis, wet tobacco, iodine, dried blood ferrous notes but with an underlying red fruited nuance. Dark cherry, dried raspberry and light leafy notes. The more you look, the more you see. The palate is decidedly medium bodied with the darker fruit flavours shining and adding to the sense of depth and texture while the red fruit characters add length and persistence. The flavours and complexity are framed by chamois like tannins with their light chalky-crunch and smooth long finish. Classic, fragrant, medium bodied Yarra cabernet that that is designed for a very long future.

Simply named from our address at Coldstream, the 864 range is a showcase of highly detailed micro-selections from the most exceptional single vineyard sites in the Yarra Valley. Sourced from the Henk Vineyard, Aqueduct Block. Planted in the red volcanic soils of Woori Yallock in 2008 using the Dijon clone 95. Fermented then matured in French oak barrels (20% new) on its gross lees for 10 months followed by a further six months in tank before bottling. Complex from the outset - struck match, white nectarine, fennel seed, white flowers, lime skin and dried pear. The impression is of it being crystalline and almost floral. The flavours carry over on to the palate with background flecks of mineral, the subtlest notes of toast and vanilla bean. This is taught and linear but with a glassy texture which carries the wine to a long persistent finish. Refined mod-Oz destined for the long haul.

Oakridge are well known for their white wine styles, especially their Chardonnay, but don't forget the Yarra Valley Cabernet Sauvignon that can do so well. Sourced from the Henk Vineyard, Aqueduct Block. Planted in the red volcanic soils of Woori Yallock in 2008 using the MV6 clone. Immediately, very expressive and aromatic. Mixed red fruits - pomegranate, red cherry, raspberry and cranberry infused with notes of mineral and flint. Then there’s an underlying spectrum of brown spices such as nutmeg, cinnamon and bergamot plus herbal flecks of sage and thyme derived from whole bunch fermentation. These flavours cascade over the palate which is richly textured and satiny-soft adding a sense of dimension and depth as it evolves and changes with air. At once, this is bright, fresh, savoury and complex. Deceptively powerful yet totally finessed.

Undoubtedly one of Australia's greatest Chardonnay's, the Oakridge 864 wine is terroir-driven. Made to demonstrate the importance of time and place with every bottle. This wine is comparable to top-end Burgundies. Ageing has enabled the acidity to slightly soften and the regional minerality to come to the fore, meaning the 2012 vintage is definitely one for the collection!
