Chateau Tanunda The Château Single Vineyard Chardonnay

Tasting Notes Aromas of citrus, pear and white peach lead to enticing stone fruit and fig flavours on the palate. Crisp acidity, complex layering with a hint of nougat and vanilla culminate in a long seamless finish. Winemaking Hand-picked from select rows in our high altitude Eden Valley vineyard. The grapes are whole bunch basket-pressed, before the juice is run to barrel for fermentation. Wild and inoculated fermentation is encouraged. Regular lees stirring and 8 month’s maturation in new and seasoned French oak barriques gives the wine beautiful texture and complexity. Vineyard Soil Type: Deep clay loam contrast sandy loam soils on dark brown subsoil.

Chateau Tanunda Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

Chateau Tanunda was established in 1890 and is the site of some of the First vines planted in the Barossa in the 1840s as well as the Valleys first winery. The grapes for this Cabernet Sauvignon are from select rows of our Eden Valley vineyard. This wine displays deep, rich purple and red hues. The bouquet has lifted aromas of blackcurrant,bluberry and spice on the silky smooth palate with hints of cedar and mint.

A dry Chardonnay from a selection of vineyard blocks across the cool climate of the Eden Valley, with hallmark richness and power from this iconic Barossa winery.Vibrant gold in colour. Aromas of peach, pear, fig and savoury oak. A full-flavoured expression with a deep core of stonefruit, citrus and apple, well-judged oak, mouth-watering acidity and a long, fruit-sweet finish.

Château Tanunda 150 Year Old Vines 1858 Field Blend

An iconic wine from one of the most unique vineyards in the world. VINEYARDOne of the oldest field blends in the world of Grenache, Mourvedre and Malbec planted in 1858. This small block in Springton in the Eden Valley is home to classified Ancestor vines, dry grown as bush vines on their original rootstock.The block yields just over 1 ton of grapes in the best of vintages, which are hand-picked into small picking baskets to optimize fruit health. 150 Year Old Vines 1858 Field Blend 2016TASTING NOTESLovely floral and spicy complexities, with hints of fruits of the forest, pepper and ginger snap. The palate displays the full range of dark berries, Mediterranean herbs, and savoury pan jus elements. It is tight and compact, intense and deep, firm and taut, with nicely measured grip and tremendous length. A powerhouse of a wine, but also one possessed of great elegance.WINEMAKINGThe grapes are destemmed and fermented in a small open stainless steel fermenter over 10 days. We gently hand plunge the must several times per day for gentle extraction of aromas, colour and tannins.Upon completion of fermentation, the wine is then basket-pressed and allowed to naturally complete malolactic fermentation, before 18 months maturation in French oak puncheons. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.Delivered in an individual timber display box.

TASTING NOTESThe dark, brooding regional characters of plum, red cherry and liquorice are all to the fore of this wine.The palate is focused and linear, with dark bitter chocolate notes and an elegant long persistent finish. We recommend cellaring for 10 years.WINEMAKINGThe most westerly zone of the Barossa, known as the Western Slopes, gives rise to some of the richest expressions of Shiraz from the Barossa. Soil: Heavy brown earth, red clay and crackled ironstone Altitude: 290mTo ensure the unique character of this sub region is exemplified in the wine, small open fermenters and our basket press were employed to gently extract the wine.Aging in the finest quality oak and selection of the truest barrels has created a wine that respects and expresses its place of origin.
