The pinnacle of Chapel Hill's best parcels of red come together to form The Vicar, a prestige full blooded McLaren Vale Shiraz of great distinction. Painstakingly chosen from selected single-vineyard McLaren Vale sites, The Vicar is overflowing with ripe mulberry and licquorice flavours interlinked with sublime oak influence from over 80% French oak influence.

The iconic stained glass window positioned proudly in the McLaren Vale home of Chapel Hill reads an excerpt from the text 'I am the true vine. My father is a vinedresser.' The Vinedresser range is made in tribute to the relationships forged with the dedicated and talented grapegrowers of McLaren Vale. These wines are gently made and are suitable for vegetarians and vegans. Swirling blueberry and aniseed flavours are further enhanced by a defiantly opulent palate.

In 2024, we’re celebrating our fiftieth vintage with the release of a new flagship wine.A single block wine that epitomises our meticulous approach to everything we do. Every aspect has been carefully considered to ensure The Devil is the most characterful and expressive wine possible. With just eight barrels produced, The Devil really is in the detail. Gentle and patient winemaking is preferred to ensure that the wine expresses the unique site characters of the House Block. The hand harvested grapes were gently crushed and then fermented in an open fermenter and hand plunged to facilitate subtle tannin extraction. After 12 days on skins the fermenter was basket pressed and the free run and pressing fractions were combined. The wine was then aged for 20 months in 100% tight grained French oak. The proportion of new oak was kept low to encourage the continued expression of the characters that are exclusive to the vineyard site. To preserve purity and character the wine is made with minimal additions and is allowed to clarify naturally without the use of fining or filtration. Opulent layers of dark berry fruit sprinkled with roasted spices. A silky mouthfeel with moreish complexity, sublime balance and graceful poise. A wine to celebrate our heritage and herald our future.

Some would say McLaren Vale is the spiritual home of Australian Grenache. We are not about to start arguing when Grenache like this one from Chapel Hill are produced. Generous rich red fruits with smattering of dried herbs and a fleshy mid-palate. There is real concentration and complexity to this wine.

Two of the vineyards contributing to this wine are named "Inkwell"! A solid clue as to the wine's colour lies right there. One of the benchmark reds of McLaren Vale, The Vicar impresses yet again. Not just a big, dark thing, balance and buoyancy of fruit separate if from the pack of huge local reds. Careful cellaring has seen a touch of cured meat flavour emerge to complement the ample black, plummy, chocolate and spiced fruit cake layering. Chapel Hill's 'The MV' range celebrates an exploration of some of McLaren Vales finest vineyard sites. Sourced from a terraced block that is perched above the picturesque Onkaparinga Gorge, resembling a natural amphitheatre for Chardonnay to proudly express both complexity and varietal finesse. Crafted with a gentle patience, using entirely by-hand winemaking techniques, this wine demonstrates the beauty, complexity and character of place, varietal and vintage. To preserve purity and character, this wine is made with minimal additions and is allowed to clarify naturally without the use of fining or filtration - meaning it's suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
