Joadja Single Malt Whisky, Release 17 (Ex Oloroso) recently won a Silver Medal at the Tasting Australia Spirit Awards 2022. Our Olorosso Casks Batch 4 & 5 won Bronze at the 2019 Australian Distillers Awards. Being one of only a handful of Single Malt Whisky distilleries in the world who grow their own barley and have access to pristine spring water on site sets us apart when considering where our unique flavours are developed. Add this to our hand-picked ex-Sherry barrels (from our birth place in Spain) for maturing our spirit and we have the ingredients for a unique Australian Single Malt Whisky. “I really thought I had an original idea, alas, no. Saffron gin has been done before in France. I think the Brocken Specter Summer Gin is the first Australian saffron gin we use 100% Tasmanian grown saffron and never add any coloring. For the base we combine 16 aromatics including juniper, coriander seed, lemon myrtle, strawberry gum, star anise and vanilla bean. This mix is added to a grape based spirit and left over night. This spirit/aromatic base re-distilled, after at full strength we add the saffron. After a few days the saffron stamens are completely white and simply strained out. The gin is gluten free, vegan and unfiltered. Try a summer gin with good tonic, fresh chilies and thyme!”

They clearly embraced it, given how the infamous Mad Men had such a taste for it 80 years later in the 1960s Manhattan advertising scene. The Old Fashioned has had a makeover or two over its time.
