TARDIEU-LAURENT Cuvee Speciale, Chateauneuf-du-Pape

The bouquet and palate show an intense mixture of ripe berry fruits combined with vanilla and spice overtones whilst fine grained, integrated tannins add further complexity. The prestigious USA Wine & Spirit magazine selected our 1860 vines plantings as one of the 25 great vineyards of the world further reinforcing the priceless inheritance of these unique releases.

With plenty of blackberry, plum, mulberry and menthol-like fruit and fine, rusty, almost unyielding tannins, this is a strong, firm wine by Wendouree with plenty of lasting power. The Shiraz component derives from vineyard plots that include bush vine material. Parcels of very old vine Malbec bring further distinctiveness. The wine is vinified in open fermenters and matured for 12 months in new and used French oak.

Pegasus Bay have about a dozen different clones of Pinot Noir. With their original plantings, these grow intermingled throughout the various blocks. The vines, many of which are nearly 30 years old and on their own roots, grow on a series of north facing, gradually descending terraces. Traditional Burgundian winemaking methods are used. Bright ruby colour. Its generous aromas and flavours dark cherries, blackberries, raspberries and mulberries, suffused with chocolate mocha and spice. There is an underlying savoury character, suggesting grilled meats and mushrooms with a hint of black olive tapenade. It is seductively light on entry but rapidly expands on the palate to become rich and mouth filling, while retaining elegance and poise. Silky tannins help draw out its lingering aftertaste.

A Rosé with the structure of a prestige Cuvée, Charles Heidsidck Rosé Reserve has a subtle, yet complex aromas of strawberry jam mixed with ripe peaches on the nose. It is delicate at first on the palate but the raspberry and blackberry slowly became apparent. They are well-balanced with the right amount of acidity. The wine is well structured and made to match with food.

The Vieille Julienne Chateauneuf Du Pape Les Hauts Lieux 2021 is a stunning representation of the famed Chateauneuf-du-Pape region in France. This vintage, produced by the esteemed Domaine de la Vieille Julienne, boasts a deep ruby red color with a brilliant clarity. On the nose, aromas of ripe black cherries, plums, and blackcurrants intertwine with hints of spice, leather, and earthiness. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and rich, with a beautiful balance of tannins and acidity. First produced in 1911. The fruit for Massolino's classic Nebbiolo cuvée is selected from seven sites, representing roughly seven hectares of prime-sited Serralunga vineyards. The oldest vines that feed this bottling are 55 years old (the youngest are 10), and it spends 24 months in large Slovenian oak (only).

The 2010 Chateau d'Issan is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot, showing 'classic Margaux' in its perfume, finesse and apparent elegance. Soils are gravel and clay, which contributes to the high-tones of perfume from the wine, and though an estate that is neccesarily clawing its way back to a higher profile, is doing so with deeds in bottle over showmanship. On its side, the vineyard is dense with older vines that naturally offer lower yields, allowing for a higher quality of fruit for the winemaking team, in turn producing a wine of stellar quality from 2010.

Château Latour à is an unclassified producer yet amongst the great crus of the Pomerol appellation. The excellent 1982 vintage has produced a Latour à for the ages. Still retaining structure in its maturity, the nose exerts dark fruits, herbs and subtle spice leading to the elegantly balanced palate.
