Hobart Whisky Ex-Sherry Matured Laphroaig Finished Single Malt Whisky

Hobart Whisky is a family-owned distillery based in Hobart, Tasmania, and their philosophy is entirely based around making whisky for them, that they love, and want to share. Established in 2014 early distillations were done with a wash from local brewery Moo Brew. In 2017 they were able to set up our brewing and fermentation system which has been utilised since. Production is done solely on a locally manufactured 1800L Knapp Lewer copper pot still. Each run is considered individually with cut decisions based purely on scent and taste. It’s all about the perfect control of the product and telling a story. Hobart Whisky predominantly mature their spirit in American oak ex-bourbon casks. This decision was made for a number of reasons, primarily, the ex-bourbon gives a great opportunity to impart their favourite flavours and characteristics in to the whisky. They have found a lot of success in matured in ex-bourbon and then finishing in other casks including fortified and wine casks, among other things. This allows to ensure the whisky matures and is balanced without picking up too many tannins, being too cask driven yet youthful. This limited release is a marriage of small carefully selected American oak ex-bourbon casks. The spirit from these barrels is then given a finishing period in barrels that matured sherry and also barrels that held Laphroaig peated whisky. The result is a whisky a whisky that has the ability to show tropical fruits and toffee but also show dark fruits and a slight nuttiness with the added satisfaction of a hint of Laphroaig peat.

Hobart Whisky Oatmeal Stout Single Malt Whisky (Batch 22-002)

Hobart Whisky is a family-owned distillery based in Hobart, Tasmania, established in 2014 their philosophy is entirely based around making whisky for them, that they love, and want to share. Despite being one of the first ten Tasmanian distilleries, they flew under the radar for quite a while, and in this time concentrated on making whisky. Not all expressions are the same and every bottle of every release is hand bottled and labelled in the distillery with each bottle having its own identifying bottle number. Hobart Whisky bears testimony to Tasmanian malted barley, fermented with style, gently distilled with grace, then sweetly rested in hand selected oak casks. Whiskies are matured predominantly in American oak ex-bourbon casks and each small batch holds its own distinctive characteristics and signature. This release is a barrel aged beer project from distiller and brewer, Ben and Trevor. Starting with an Oatmeal stout that was brewed onsite and barrel aged in ex-bourbon cask for 3 months. Carefully selected ex-bourbon mature single malt whisky was vatted before finishing in the freshly decanted stout cask. Initially planned for release in August, the stout was served at the 2022 Tasmanian Whisky Week boilermaker event at the Gold Bar. However the release was delayed with distiller Ben deciding to re-cask it into another fresh stout cask. The result is an undeniably stout cask influenced whisky that is rich and bold with notes of roasted hazelnuts, rich caramel, and subtle tobacco. Fruit and nut chocolate, banana bread, chocolate coated liquorice, a long finish with gentle ginger and rye spice sweetness lingering.

Whack open a new slot every day to reveal a total of 25 Australian gins, produced by distilleries in every state of Australia. This year there are quite a few smaller distilleries being featured along with a few new releases. We've chosen a balanced range of classic dry, navy strength, barrel aged and exotic flavoured gins to showcase the full gamut of gin styles available. The calendar also comes with access to our online tasting notes. The entire calendar weighs over 3kg, so we recommend placing it on a secure flat surface, out of reach of those under the influence of its contents, at least until the next day. For those who had last year's version of this calendar, you'll be glad to know there are no repeats in this year's edition. Artwork This year we teamed up with Negin Maddock, an illustrator and printmaker based in Sydney, to showcase ‘Curlew Sandpiper’, a linocut print. Linocut is a form of printmaking referred to as relief printing. Starting with an illustration which is transferred to a lino block, the image is slowly and carefully carved into the block. Ink is then applied to the block using a roller called a brayer. The block is then pressed onto paper to transfer the image. Gift advice These Gin Advent Calendars are shipped in plain brown cardboard shipping boxes to maximise the surprise factor. We never include invoices within orders.
