Daniel Gómez Jiménez-Landi Las Iruelas Garnacha Las Iruelas (taking its name from the Valle de Iruelas) is Dani Landis 1er cru single-vineyard, or vino de parcela Garnacha that from vines that sit 1000 metres above sea level in the village of El Tiemblo. Like all of Dani Landis wines, the fruit comes from biodynamically grown, hand-tended old vines. These vines are 60+ years-old and sit on steep, east facing slopes. The rich and complex Sierra de Gredos soils are made up of sandy granite, schist, quartz and clay. The wine is made with the same care as all of Landi's wines, both the 1er crus and the village style. Whole bunches are fermented in open vats using natural yeasts, managed with pigéage, and aged for 16 months in 500L French oak barrels. The wine style shows bright acidity, juicy red cherry fruit and a muscularity owing to the use of oak. DOMAINE PIERRE USSEGLIO Reserve des Deux Freres, Chateauneuf-du-Pape

The blend here is 85% Tempranillo, 6% Garnacha and 9% Graciano. This wonderfully complex wine has aromas of blackberries, raspberries and notes of smoke, minerals and herbs. The tannins are firm, slightly austere and yet ripe, balancing expressive fruit concentration on the palate and leading to a long refined finish.

This wine is generous and rounded at first with juicy, deep berry compote fruits then yielding to a tightly woven frame of firm yet generous tannins. There are alluring, coconutty oak and fine dark chocolate characters, with a deep, soft centre of ripe berry fruits. Elegant acids and light, long tannins carry the palate to deliver a lingering finish.

The 2010 Chateau d'Issan is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot, showing 'classic Margaux' in its perfume, finesse and apparent elegance. Soils are gravel and clay, which contributes to the high-tones of perfume from the wine, and though an estate that is neccesarily clawing its way back to a higher profile, is doing so with deeds in bottle over showmanship. On its side, the vineyard is dense with older vines that naturally offer lower yields, allowing for a higher quality of fruit for the winemaking team, in turn producing a wine of stellar quality from 2010.

Felton Road is responsible, to a large extent, for putting Central Otago on the world Pinot Noir map. The wines are, well not so much fruit-driven, as perhaps turbo-charged! Amazing levels of red fruits, a subtle yet important savoury component, along with the silky texture all Pinot enthusiasts long for. This single-block wine shows how different portions of a single vineyard can still have a quite unique character, or what the French would call terrior.

Nestled in western Victoria, right in the heart of the Grampians wine region, Langi Shiraz is a classic, true to type wine that Dan Buckle has handcrafted. A sensuous Shiraz that displays exotic aromas and flavours of spice, savouriness and that trademark pepper character. Red berry fruit is not to be forgotten here and after a good decant, is more than suitable to be enjoyed from today onwards.
