This is a real crowd pleaser from Tyrrell's Wine. Plus one of the pioneers of the variety in Australia, Chardonnay. The Hunter Vally Moon mountain Chardy is a well crafted elegant wine with fresh green melon flavours and cleansing crisp acidity.

McKelvey Estate continue to produce wines punching above their weight and with Keith Tulloch as winemaker, its easy to see why. In the glass: Delicate pale straw with green highlights. On the nose: Energetic and zesty white and yellow melon with cashew and fine oak spice. On the palate: Finely structured with elegant white fig and white peach, dry, minerally acidity and long, fresh acidity.

The 1908 block at the HVD Vineyard was hand-picked and basket pressed, with the juice cold settled for four days before fermentation began in stainless steel tanks. The fermenting juice was then transferred to French oak barriques, 30% of which were new. The wine is balanced between primary chardonnay fruit flavours and secondary flavours, derived from the minimal solids ferment and extended yeast lees contact, resulting in this wine's texture and mouthfeel. Lifted nose of citrus and nectarine with slight hints of hazelnut. Classic nectarine & citrus carry onto the palate with bright fruit intensity balanced by natural acidity and length. Delicate hints of lifted hazelnut notes are delivered by 9 months in puncheons & barriques; this is a fine & elegantly structured Chardonnay.

The grapesfor this wine were picked from our 40 year old vines grown in the volcanic soilof the ancient Fordwich Sill. These low yielding mature vines produce ripe, concentrated fruitwhich results in a wine with excellent regional and varietal characters.

The Usher Tinkler Reserve Chardonnay was produced from grapes grown on the "Fence Block" vineyard in the Hunter Valley, planted by the Tinkler family in 1981. The vineyard is sustainably farmed, and the grapes all harvested by hand before being basket pressed and barrel fermented. After fermentation the wine was then barrel aged for 5-6 months. This Chardonnay is robust with flavours of ripe melon and lemon characteristics, with a hint of French oak and complexity.

Entirely sourced from Tyrrell's famous HVD vineyard. These dry grown blocks were planted in 1984 and 2003 and together they produce a modern style that has both richness and finesse.
