The Margaret Pooley Tribute Riesling is a reserve wine made only in exceptional years from the original Pooley Riesling plantings established in 1985. This is Anna Pooley's most explosive and concentrated Riesling release. Built with cellaring in mind, it's an intensely flavoured, tightly structured wine that is going to reward patience in the cellar. One of the benchmark Rieslings in Tasmania, whenever Anna deems this high enough quality to be a stand alone release, enthusiasts should jump on it. This Riesling is a cut above.

Bright light golden color with a vivid mousse. Rather complex and layered nose, vinous with (perhaps oak) roasted hazelnut, yellow fruit, apricot, fresh butter and brioche, rather white burgundy like on the nose. The palate is well-built with a bright freshness and layers of ripe stone fruit underlined by pastry notes and fresh butter with a long and lingering finish. Nice. The best Chardonnay from the family’s vineyards is used to make this vintage Trentodoc; it is the wine that best summarizes the art of Ferrari. The phrasing of its taste is highly elegant, with a crescendoing finish. Pale golden highlights adorn its straw yellow colour. The perlage is extremely fine and persistent. Aromatic richness of extraordinary expressiveness: the scene is dominated by hints of Reinette apples and citrus fruits, accompanied by tones of white peach, almond blossom and toast-like notes. Elegant and harmonious, with the unmistakable fruity, aromatic sensations that are typical of Chardonnay. These are followed by a slightly almondy finish of great persistence, the result of long ageing on the yeasts.

A brilliant straw yellow,with remarkably persistent perlage. Sensations of apple, underpinned by tones of biscuit and citron. Amidst the notes of ripe fruit one finds pleasant hints of crusty bread, deriving from its more than 30 months’ ageing on the yeasts. A fresh and lively flavour, enhanced by the velvety softness of the bubbles. The typical fruity notes of Chardonnay combine with fragrances of yeast.

The guiding principles of blending are the achievement of harmony and consistency. The White Foil blend is traditionally composed from around 80 still base wines, drawn from different vineyard sites (crus), grape varieties and vintage years. The blend contains approximately one third of each three grape varieties of Champagne. Pinot Noir contributes body, depth of character and life extending tannins, Pinot Meunier adds youthful freshness, vigour and plump fruit character while Chardonnay gibes lightness, elegance and firmness.
