Cloudy Bay Te Wahi Pinot Noir
Domaine Meo-Camuzet Nuits St. Georges Aux Murgers
Domaine Méo-Camuzet, situated in the charming village of Vosne-Romanée in the esteemed Côte de Nuits region, stands as a revered wine producer. Renowned for crafting some of the most celebrated wines in the Côte d'Or, this prestigious estate boasts a collection of grand cru vineyards, including the esteemed Richebourg, Clos de Vougeot, Corton and Echézeaux. The heart and soul of Méo-Camuzet lies in its devotion to the Pinot Noir grape, which forms the foundation of their exceptional wines. These wines are revered for their delicately concentrated aromas, showcasing the meticulous craftsmanship and unwavering dedication of the winemaking team. The origins of this esteemed estate can be traced back to Etienne Camuzet, a respected politician of the early 20th century who resided in Paris. Etienne offered portions of his estate to various sharecroppers for cultivation. It was not until 1986 when Jean-Nicholas Méo took charge of the estate that a strategic vision was set in motion to reclaim the vineyards from the sharecroppers. Jean-Nicholas aimed to regain control over the land, ultimately leading to the production of estate-grown fruit and bottling under the Méo-Camuzet label. An instrumental figure in this reacquisition process was the iconic Burgundy producer, Henri Jayer. For approximately four decades, Jayer had worked the domaine's land under his own label. Following his retirement in 1988, Jayer graciously provided guidance and advice to Jean-Nicholas during the process of reclaiming the vines. Notably, Méo-Camuzet now proudly holds 14 hectares (35 acres) of vineyards, including a portion of the revered Cros Parantoux Premier Cru site, made famous by Jayer himself. While Méo-Camuzet strives to farm its vineyards as organically as possible, the estate has deliberately chosen not to pursue certification. This decision allows the winemakers the freedom to adapt their approach based on the unique characteristics of each vintage. In addition to their prestigious grand cru wines, Méo-Camuzet also produces a selection of premier cru wines from vineyards along the Côte de Nuits. Furthermore, they offer a range of village-level and Bourgogne wines, ensuring a diverse and exciting collection. Nuits St. Georges Aux Murgers is a wine that requires caution to avoid overpowering its character. Planted between 1965 and 1972, the vineyards produce early-ripening grapes with remarkable acidity. Situated between Vosne and Nuits-St-Georges, the vineyard benefits from an ideal location on the lower part of the hill, facing east. The soil once destoned is fine with sandy elements at the top. Nuits St. Georges Aux Murgers exemplifies the delicate balance between technique and terroir, offering a distinctive and elegant expression of its unique character. The Domaine Meo-Camuzet Nuits St. Georges Aux Murgers 2020 is a wine with a clearly pronounced personality that leaves a lasting impression. It exudes powerful and at times wild aromas, captivating the senses. The wine is characterized by a marked acidity which imparts a refreshing quality and a fine roundness that can even border on opulence. In summary, this is an intense wine that possesses multiple qualities to win you over. With its excellent ageing potential, the Domaine Meo-Camuzet Nuits St. Georges Aux Murgers 2020 rewards patience. It is a wine that demands waiting, but the reward is truly worth it. Given time, this wine will evolve and develop into some exceptional bottles. The evolution of this wine is slow, occasionally even too slow. It possesses numerous elements that please the senses, but it takes time for them to harmonize and come together. The influence of new oak is notable and lingers for a significant period before the wine begins to soften. As a result, it is bottled late to allow for optimal integration and balance. The Domaine Meo-Camuzet Nuits St. Georges Aux Murgers 2020 is a wine of depth and complexity that requires patience and understanding. With its powerful personality and the promise of a remarkable evolution, it is a wine that holds great potential and will reward those who can appreciate its journey.
Domaine Des Comtes Lafon Monthelie Les Duresses
Domaine des Comtes Lafon is a renowned wine producer located in Meursault, Burgundy. The estate is celebrated for crafting exceptional and highly sought-after white wines made from Chardonnay grapes. In addition to Meursault, the domaine also owns vineyards in Chassagne-Montrachet, Volnay and Monthélie. One of the notable features of Domaine des Comtes Lafon is its deep and cold cellars, which are the most extensive in Burgundy. These cellars foster the production of some of Burgundy's greatest dry white wines. Dominique Lafon, the leading producer in Meursault, is responsible for creating wines of astonishing depth and complexity while maintaining superb balance. The history of the estate dates back to 1869 when the Boch family built the house and cellar at Clos de la Barre. However, it was Comte Jules Lafon, who married Mademoiselle Marie Boch in 1894, that truly established the domaine. Comte Jules Lafon had the foresight to acquire exceptionally well-situated plots in the finest vineyards of Meursault, Volnay, and even a treasured piece of Le Montrachet in 1919. Dominique Lafon took over the estate in 1985, inheriting a domaine that already had a reputation for outstanding white wines, as well as the potential for good reds. When he assumed control, most of the vineyards were leased out on a share-cropping basis. It was only towards the end of the 1980s that Lafon managed to reclaim all the vineyards, allowing him full responsibility for their cultivation. Since then, the white wines have consistently ranked among the best in Burgundy, while the reds have achieved top-tier status since 1989. The domaine's holdings are not only in the finest vineyards of Meursault and Volnay, but they are also strategically situated within these vineyards. Today, the domaine follows biodynamic principles, eschewing herbicides and chemical sprays in their viticultural practices. All the wines undergo barrel fermentation, with new oak used for the premier crus and higher. After malolactic fermentation, only one racking takes place and the wines are bottled nearly two years after the vintage. This late bottling is one of the latest in Burgundy. The wines of Domaine des Comtes Lafon represent the pinnacle of White Burgundy, characterized by superlative fruit, power, complexity and perfect harmony. The red wines, including those from Volnay and Monthélie, also showcase exceptional quality. Les Duresses is a premier cru vineyard situated on the western side of the Monthélie appellation in the Côte de Beaune region of Burgundy. Spanning 6.7 hectares, the vineyard primarily cultivates Pinot Noir with a small portion dedicated to Chardonnay on the upper slope. Bordering its counterpart in Auxey-Duresses, the vineyard benefits from a terroir composed of pebbly marl with clay, particularly lower down the slope. The presence of Argovian limestone in the soil contributes to the minerality found in wines from Les Duresses. The vineyard's steep hillside location, facing east, grants the vines morning sunlight while sheltering them from the intense afternoon sun, resulting in a relatively cool mesoclimate. The Monthélie portion of Les Duresses produces predominantly red wines, while a few notable white examples can also be found. The wines from this premier cru vineyard are known for their delicate nature. The Auxey-Duresses section of Les Duresses receives more sunlight, leading to slightly less delicate wines compared to its Monthélie counterpart. Les Duresses offers a unique expression of Burgundian terroir, showcasing the distinct characteristics of its location and soil composition. From red to white, the wines produced from this premier cru vineyard continue to captivate wine enthusiasts with their finesse and complexity. The Domaine Comtes Lafon Monthelie Les Duresses 2020 is an exquisite red wine that showcases the unique characteristics of this renowned producer. It offers a ripe and nuanced blackberry and bramble fruit character, with a pure pinot nose that exudes freshness and vitality. The texture of the wine is exuberant and youthful, displaying a thick, textured deep raspberry fruit on the palate. It has a medium to full-bodied profile, with a good core of fruit and moderate tannins that provide structure. On the nose, this wine offers enticing aromas of dark cherries, berries, spices and loamy soil. The palate is layered and concentrated, with terrific depth and energy. It reveals a touch of extra concentration and ripeness from the vintage, with a rich and delicious blend of black raspberries, fruitcake, dark soil tones, woodsmoke and a hint of violets. The wine finishes with a long, tangy and complex finish, showcasing the concentrated effect from desiccated berries that were prevalent in this vintage. This red wine is not intended for long ageing, but it is highly enjoyable in its youth. It offers a great balance of fruit weight, freshness and persistence. With its depth, concentration and complex profile, it is a wine that showcases the expertise and craftsmanship of Domaine Comtes Lafon.

Domaine Armand Rousseau Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru
Product Information: Domaine Armand Rousseau ranks with Romanée-Conti, Leflaive, Jacques Prieur, and a small handful of names that are the stuff of Burgundy legend. These domaines produce impeccable quality wines from vintage to vintage, and consistently place Burgundy at the top of the wine world. Each of the domaine’s prestigious holdings are in Gevrey Chambertin, with the exception of Grand Cru Clos de la Roche in Morey-St. Denis. The domaine has 8 hectares of Grand Crus, including in Chambertin and in Clos de Bèze. Rousseau also owns acreage in the famed Premier Cru Clos St. Jacques, and the monopole, Grand Cru Clos des Ruchottes. Director and heir to the domaine, Cyrielle Rousseau, remarks on the stylistic differences of the Grand Cru sites, "Charmes is supposed to be more feminine and elegant than Mazy-Chambertin, which is often more structured. Chambertin is strong and firm, while Clos de Bèze is more delicate and spicy. Each one of the grand crus is so different." Moreover the wines from Gevrey are generally fruitier and spicier than those from Morey Stain-Denis which are quite mineral, tannic and monolithic in comparison. Regarding winemaking, simplicity is key. For all wines around 90% of the grapes are destemmed. All the vine fruit is placed in open stainless steel tanks, where it is fermented for 18 to 20 days. During fermentation between 31-34 degrees, the juice is gently and continuously pumped over with regular treading to release colour and tannins. After fermentation, the wines are delicately pressed in a pneumatic press and are allowed to settle for 24 hours. Finally, the winemaker transfers the wine to oak barrels. Here, malolactic fermentation takes place naturally. The wine is aged for 18 months in before bottling. Every Armand Rousseau wine is released two years after bottling. Maker: Domaine Armand Rousseau is one of Burgundy’s greatest producers. Their wines inspire awe in the fine wine world, with each vintage highly sought after. The domaine was founded at the turn of the last century by its namesake Armand Rousseau, courtesy of a small inheritance of vineyards in Gevrey Chambertin followed by additional vineyards added through marriage. Today, the domaine produces some of the world's most prized wines. Their substantial holdings of Chambertin have accumulated through purchases which span nearly 90 years. The estate boasts a rich history, initiated by the pioneering efforts of Armand Rousseau in the 1930s. Today, his grandson Eric and great-granddaughter Cyrielle are at the helm. The wines produced by this domaine are pale, finely structured and possess great elegance and stamina. The key to the Rousseau style is simple - old vines and sensible yields, with the wines gaining weight and complexity as they age. These wines are highly coveted by collectors and investors due to their limited annual production of just 65,000 bottles. Vineyard: Most of the domaine's prestigious holdings is in Gevrey Chambertin, with the exception of Grand Cru Clos de la Roche in Morey-St. Denis. The domaine controls a remarkable 8 hectares of Grand Crus, including 6.25 acres in Chambertin and 3.45 in Clos de Bèze. Rousseau owns 5.5 acres in the famed Premier Cru Clos St. Jacques, which accounts for 40% of the total acreage, and 100% of the 2.5-acre monopole, Grand Cru Clos des Ruchottes. The Armand Rousseau vineyard plots are located on the eastern and south-eastern slopes of Cote de Nuits, giving the vine plantings ideal sun exposure. The vineyards are planted with old vines that enjoy clay-limestone soils - attributing Armand Rousseau wine's added complexity and concentration. Eric Rousseau practices traditional viticultural techniques combined with modern methodologies to bring out the best expression of his Pinot Noir. This includes Green harvesting helps to reduce yields (30-40 hL per hectare) and produce concentrated fruits. Leaf stripping helps the grape vines get enough sun exposure for ripening. Plowing of the vineyards helps aerate to the soil. Avoiding the use of chemical fertilizers further maintains soil health. Nose - Floral Top Notes, Red Cherries, Turned Earth A discreet application of wood frames pure aromas of red cherries, just turned earth and a floral top note. Palate - Tensile, Fine, Powerful The palate is supple but racy middleweight flavors aren't quite as concentrated but they're finer and more powerful. Finish - Powdery Tannins, Saline, Cherry Inflection Powdery tannins and a saline finish, it will require a bit of patience.

Sylvain Cathiard Nuits St Georges 1er Cru Aux Murgers
Domaine Sylvain Cathiard stands as a testament to the dedication and passion of the Cathiard family. This small domaine, established by Sylvain Cathiard's grandfather in the 1930s, carries with it a rich history rooted in the legendary Domaine de la Romanee Conti and Domaine Lamarche. Sylvain's father, Andre, lovingly nurtured the domaine from 1969 until 1985, when the reins were passed on to Sylvain himself. In the following years, Sylvain embarked on a journey to develop his own vineyards, renting parcels from his father and other vignerons. Soon after he acquired his father's original vineyards solidifying his commitment to the craft. In 2006, Sylvain's son, Sebastien joined him marking the beginning of a new chapter for the estate. Together, they formed Sylvain Cathiard et Fils, a collaboration that combines tradition with a fresh perspective. Since 2011, Sebastien has taken the helm, carrying on the family legacy while Sylvain enjoys a well-deserved retirement. Spanning across 5 hectares, the vineyards of Domaine Sylvain Cathiard grace the appellations of Vosne-Romanée, Nuits-St-Georges and Chambolle-Musigny. Of significant note is their tiny parcel in Romanée-St-Vivant, situated just below the iconic Romanee Conti. Here, they proudly hold the title of the smallest land-owner of this magnificent Grand cru. Every aspect of vineyard work is executed with meticulous attention to detail by Sebastien, his wife, and a dedicated team. Embracing organic principles, they prioritize the natural harmony of the vines, although certification has not been sought. When it comes to winemaking, Sebastien adopts a hands-off approach, allowing the wines to evolve naturally. Whole-cluster fermentation takes place, with the juice cold settled for approximately 10 days. The wines then undergo a skin contact period of 22 to 30 days. Maturation occurs over 18 months in oak barrels, sourced primarily from tonellerie Remond and Francois Freres. The percentage of new oak used varies across the appellations, with village wines aged in roughly 1/3rd new oak and 2/3rds of 1-year-old oak. Premier Crus see a balance of 50% new oak and 50% 1-year-old oak, while Grand Crus are aged in two new barrels and one one-year-old barrel. Since 2000, the wines have not been fined or filtered, allowing them to express their true character. Sebastien Cathiard's wines exude an unparalleled sense of harmony, with a soft and elegant texture that speaks to their finesse. Since taking over the domaine, Sebastien has listened attentively to those fortunate enough to taste alongside him. As a result, he has gradually reduced the percentage of new oak used for aging, allowing the fruit to shine with natural intensity and balance. The Vosne-Romanées, in particular, have garnered a reputation as some of the finest in the village. Each bottle from Domaine Sylvain Cathiard is a testament to the fully mature vineyards that have yielded fruit of exceptional quality. With a limited production of around 50 barrels in a good vintage, these wines are a true embodiment of passion, tradition and the pursuit of excellence. The Sylvain Cathiard Nuits St Georges 1er Cru Aux Murgers 2021 is an outstanding expression of this renowned Burgundy appellation. Crafted from a .47-hectare parcel of vines planted in 1945 and 1960, located mid-slope and in close proximity to the Vosne-Romanee border. This wine is aged in a combination of 50% new oak and 50% one-year-old oak, adding complexity and structure to the final product. In the glass, this Nuits St Georges 1er Cru reveals a bright red-purple colour that immediately catches the eye. The nose is incredibly enticing, with a pronounced spiciness that could easily be mistaken for a Vosne 1er Cru. Aromas of exotic tea, plum, and dark berries fill the air, setting the stage for a truly captivating tasting experience. On the palate, this wine showcases its pedigree and depth. The richness and concentration of flavors are immediately evident, highlighting the influence of very old vines. The medium-bodied texture is solidly powerful, with harmonious plush tannins that caress the palate. The mid-palate is a standout feature, displaying great depth and a sense of generosity that elevates the overall experience. The persistence of the wine is excellent, leaving a lasting impression on the palate. The lush dark fruit intensity is balanced by valuable acidity, adding a refreshing and vibrant element to the wine's profile. Bright red purple in colour, a little denser than Aux Thorey. This is the more solid of the two, slightly more backward, while the intensity of the lush dark fruit is matched by valuable acidity. The barrel speaks less and the aftertaste stretches out further. Drink from 2026-2033. - Jasper Morris MW, 92-95 Points.
