Glenfiddich 40 Year Old 'Cumulative Time' Single Malt Scotch Whisky Release No.19

The Glenfiddich Distillery was founded in 1886 by William Grant in Dufftown in the Speyside region of Scotland. The name Glenfiddich derives from the Scottish Gaelic Gleann Fhiodhaich meaning "valley of the deer". Once the spirit has matured, the whisky is cut with pure Robbie Dhu spring water. Glenfiddich has a bottling hall onsite along with a large bottling plant in Bellshill. It is visible in a rocky valley’s many solid strata; laid down over millennia, worn smooth by wind and rain. And with layers comes complexity. Which is why Glenfiddich 40 is so much more than an exemplary single malt. This rare single malt is made through remnant vatting, a pioneering process in which the Glenfiddich malt master carries one batch over, time and again, and marries it with the casks selected for each subsequent release. Cask after cask, season after season, it absorbs the evolving flavours of the passing years. It is time, age, experience accumulated. It’s a unique process that isn’t commonly used. In fact, Glenfiddich is the only distillery that still makes use of the remnant vatting process, which is a testament to the label’s traditional approach to distillation. Since the first release of Glenfiddich 40 Year Old in 2000, its special marrying tun has never been emptied, with some of the previous batch saved to provide the backbone of each new release. This year, Brian Kinsman added two butts and five hogsheads of whisky to the mix, creating a rich and sherry-led expression, weightier than previous editions. The sculptural packaging design is inspired by geological metamorphosis and made from jesmonite (a resin-based material used for sculpture and decoration), which is streaked with both upcycled copper, which represents Glenfiddich’s stills, and green glass, which nods to the ever-popular Glenfiddich 12 Year Old, giving a stone-like appearance. Luxuriously full and silky smooth, with memories of past releases in every nuanced note. Evolving from deep dried fruit notes to rich fruitcake, dates, raisins and stewed apples, with sweet cooking spices and vanilla, before giving way to dry oaky notes, with subtle hints of bitter chocolate and peat. The finish is complex, memorable and exquisitely long-lasting.

Chivas Regal 18 Year Old Blended Scotch Whisky Decanter & 2 Glasses

Chivas Regal has a rich history dating back to 1801, when John Forrest established a grocery and wine merchants in Aberdeen. The company was later joined by James Chivas in 1838, and Chivas Regal was first introduced as a 25-year-old luxury blend in 1909, becoming a firm favorite in the USA. The Chivas journey began with the founders, John and James Chivas, who were born on a farm in the rural Scottish Highlands. Despite the expectation to go into the family farming business, the brothers had bigger ambitions and moved to the city of Aberdeen to create something bigger. They eventually took over the Emporium, where they began blending whisky in the cellar, setting the standard as pioneers in the art of blending whisky. Chivas Regal has been integral to the growth of Scotch whisky worldwide by bringing together the best malt and grain whiskies to create something extraordinary. The brand has reached more than 100 countries across the globe, making it a global success. In 1843, Chivas Regal received its first Royal Warrant after serving Queen Victoria at her Balmoral countryside retreat, solidifying its association with regality. Fast forward to 1909, Master Blender Charles Howard and Alexander Smith created a 25-year-old blend that became the world's first luxury whisky, enchanting New York and becoming a staple in high society. Chivas Regal is made at the Strathisla distillery in Speyside, which is the oldest working distillery in the Scottish Highlands. The distillery's single malt whisky flows through every bottle of Chivas Regal, contributing to its signature smooth flavour Whisky is much more than a beverage; it is a craft that requires precision, patience, and unwavering dedication. Chivas Regal, an esteemed Scotch whisky, exemplifies this philosophy through its meticulous production process, spanning from the golden hills of Speyside to the iconic Chivas bottle. The journey begins with the barley, carefully nurtured in the ideal climate of Speyside. After the crucial summer months, the golden barley is harvested and taken to the maltings, where it undergoes soaking to initiate the conversion of starch to sugar. This process is crucial to the creation of Chivas Regal's exceptional flavour profile. At the Strathisla distillery, the barley is ground into "grist" and combined with pure spring water from the nearby Broomhill Spring. The meticulous addition of water at different temperatures in the mash tun creates a sweet liquid known as "wort," which forms the foundation for the whisky-making process. The distillery's commitment to sustainability is evident in the recycling of leftover grist and the efficient use of warm waters, maximizing the distillery's sustainability. The fermentation process in traditional wooden washbacks marks the birth of Chivas Regal's iconic orchard fruit flavors. These flavours are carefully nurtured through steady fermentation, protected from seasonal fluctuations by the insulating properties of wood. The distillation process further refines the whisky, with the use of copper stills ensuring that only the finest flavours are preserved. The short necks of the stills allow for the creation of the full-bodied and generous flavors that define Strathisla distillery's legacy. The heart of the whisky, containing alcohol between 65-70%, is then matured in casks until it reaches its full potential. This maturation process is where the magic of blending and selective cask finishes begins, under the skilled guidance of Chivas Regal Master Blender Sandy Hyslop. The art of blending, coupled with the influence of cask maturation, results in the complex and diverse range of Chivas Regal whiskies. Sustainability and responsibility are ingrained in Chivas Regal's ethos, from supporting local communities to prioritizing more sustainable packaging. The recent redesign of Chivas 12 bottle reflects this commitment, with a focus on reducing the environmental impact of packaging and preserving nature's resources for future generations. Chivas Regal 18 Year Old is a distinguished blend crafted from whiskies matured for a minimum of 18 years, resulting in an exceptionally special whisky. Upon the first sip, one is greeted with an extraordinary richness that unfolds into an exquisite tapestry of flavours. Aromas of buttery toffee, decadent dark chocolate and luscious dried fruit tantalize the senses, setting the stage for a truly indulgent experience. As the whisky evolves on the palate, subtle hints of spices and a delicate wisp of smoke intertwine, adding depth and complexity to the flavour profile. The journey culminates in a long, warm finish that leaves a lasting impression, inviting one to savour every lingering note. This exceptional whisky's accolades speak volumes, having been honoured with three gold medals at the esteemed San Francisco World Spirits Awards. Chivas Regal 18 Year Old is a testament to the artistry of blending and the uncompromising dedication to crafting a whisky of unparalleled quality and distinction. Ardbeg Uigeadail Single Malt Scotch Whisky

“The elemental opposite of the sophisticated Lord of the Isles.” Perched on a wave washed, rocky headland, the Ardbeg distillery was founded in 1815 by the MacDougalls of Ardbeg. The distilleries scattered white washed buildings are reminiscent of a Dutch settlement and add to the dramatic coastal landscape. Ardbeg has had a chequered history and in recent times had been closed down for many years. Glenmorangie acquired Ardbeg in 1997 and has set about restoring the distillery to its former glory. First launched in 2003, “Uigeadail” (the loch from which all Ardbeg water flows) this cask strength, heavily peated Ardbeg is produced from a mix of bourbon casks and older sherry casks. The combination gives this whisky a velvety texture, with a sweet and smokey finish. Tasting notes: Bright gold appearance. Big, sweet sherry influenced nose offers dried apricot and marmalade scents over menthol and sweet cedar smoke. Some ripe green apple notes emerge with time in the glass. The palate is off dry with a rich, dark chocolate entry becoming heavier and fudge-like with orange chocolate, sweet cereal and the peat continually reinventing itself - at once dry and sooty, then tarry and finally kippery on the finish. Excellent balance at cask strength. Boiled lolly and spice aftertaste with a subtle spearmint fade. Latest batch tasted October 2010.
