Wolfburn Distillery Wolfburn 10 Year Old Old Sherry Single Malt Scotch
This 10-year-old single malt marks a significant milestone in the history of the distillery: it is our firstpermanent age-statement release. Crafted from spirit fully matured in hand-selected second-fill Oloroso sherry casks, a full decade in Spanish sherry oak has resulted in a delightfully sweet and sumptuous whisky – a fitting testament to the skill, dedication and patience of Wolfburn’s master distillers. On The Nose–On the nose, soft sherry sweetness melds with figs and raisins. There’s a lovely hint of vanilla and oak present too. On The Palate–The depth of flavour is tremendous. Bold chocolate and dark fruit flavours abound, with overtones of caramel and vanilla, all accompanied by gentle hints of nutmeg and oak smoke. Finish –Silky tannins make for a beautifully textured finish; there’s a residual sweetness with dried fruit and caramel flavours lingering to the very end. Non chill-filtered / Natural Colour 46% ABV.
Wolfburn Single Malt Langskip Strength
Langskip is Wolfburn’s first (near) cask-strength release.Matured entirely in first-fill Bourbon casks for over five years, making Langskip the distillery’s oldest Whisky to date. Another ace whisky from the Wolfburn distillery way up in the north of Scotland. Langskip is matured exclusively in first-fill bourbon casks and is bottled at a generous 58% ABV, making it a particularly powerfully flavoursome dram. Impressive as ever from Wolfburn. A sweet, balanced and beautifully easy-drinking dram, Langskip’s strength is matched only by its smoothness. Matured entirely in first-fill bourbon casks, this whisky has a unique richness and an extraordinary depth of flavour. Bottled at 58% alcohol by volume, Langskip represents the very best of Wolfburn. TASTING NOTES ON THE NOSE– Aromas of fruit blossom meld with dried apples and light oak. In the background you’ll find traces of raisins and dates mixed with rich fruit cake. ON THE PALATE– Flavours burst onto the palate, rich and sweet, including maple syrup, dark chocolate, almonds and raisins. The finish lingers nicely – hints of vanilla gently fade away with a warming trace of caramel at the end. FINISH– Rich, full flavours ensure a wonderful finish. Sweet fruit tones are present to the end, and the final impression is of softly fading caramel. Truly scrumptious. Non chill-filtered / Natural Colour.
Wolfburn Northland Islay Single Malt Scotch
The Whisky has been aged a minimum of four and a half years in used Islay (ex Laphroaig) quarter cask barrels. It’s an outstanding dram that has justifiably garnered considerable praise from a number of the Whisky world's heavyweights (see Jim Murray’s notes below), proving our point that age statements are not necessarily all we should be looking at when judging the quality in the glass. Becoming Scotland's northernmost mainland whisky producing distillery when it released its first single malt in March 2016, Wolfburn is built just 350m away from the ruins of the 19th century distillery from which it takes its name. With long fermentation, slow manual distillation and maturation taking place at least partly in quarter casks that previously held peated whisky from Islay, this is a release eagerly anticipated. A deliciously complex single malt from one of Scotland’s newer distilleries. The smooth and warming flavours present in Northland come from the unhurried way in which the spirit is made, and from the maturation, which takes place in American oak quarter casks. Matured and bottled on site, Northland represents the first chapter in the history of Wolfburn. Tasting Notes On The Nose – Initially sweet with notes of fruit and fresh sea air. In the background you’ll find citrus freshness and hints of cereal, and just a trace of peat smoke. On The Palate – Sweet, nutty tones come to the fore, with hints of grapes and honey in the background. Floral flavours abound, enhanced with just a hint of dried fruit and spice. Finish – Soft sweet tones fade gradually away, overlaid with a just a trace of gentle peat smoke at the very end. Non chill-filtered / Natural Colour
Wolfburn Aurora Sherry Single Malt Scotch
Wolfburn is an independent distillery located in the town of Thurso on the tip of mainland Scotland. The Aurora isaged in a combination of ex-bourbon barrels and ex-sherry casks, giving the spirit delicious hints of dried fruit and sweet spice; on top of the already well balancedmalt and vanilla characteristics. As with all Wolfburn bottlings, colour is natural, there is no chill filtration and strength is 46%. This beautiful sherried whisky is made from spirit laid down in a combination of bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks. Benefitting from long fermentation and slow, gentle distillation, the spirit is laid down on-site in our purpose-built warehouses. At the end of the maturation process, the casks are brought together to create an exceptionally smooth and perfectly balanced dram. Tasting Notes On The Nose – Sherry sweetness is followed by aromas of freshly cut grass and autumn fruits, with just a hint of coffee and dark chocolate. On The Palate – Floral tones come to the fore, with overtones of spice and vanilla. Fruity sweetness coats the palate, with fruit and nut flavours leading to a warm, soft finish. Finish – The finish lingers gently; sherry tones are present to the very end. Beautiful. Non chill-filtered / Natural Colour
Wolfburn Morven Lightly Peated Single Malt Scotch
Morven takes its name from the highest peak in Caithness, a mountain surrounded by open moors and wetlands from where peat has been cut for hundreds of years. Wolfburn’s original 19th century distillery was largely fired by peat, and so this lightly-peated malt reflects the distillery’s history. With a level of peat at 10ppm, this is just enough to complex Woflburn’s plump, round spirit with a delicate wreath of smoke, but not enough to overshadow its dominant house character. (For reference, Ardmore and Talisker both come in at around 10-14ppm, Bowmore and Kilchoman at 20-25ppm, and the Islay heavy-weights clock in between 35-55ppm). Maturation was in a combination of Islay quarter casks and ex-Bourbon casks, for approximately four years. This lightly peated whisky is made from malted barley infused with smoke during the drying process. It’s a reflection of history – the original 19th Century distillery was largely fired by peat. Gentle distillation is followed by maturation in our purpose-built warehouses. The result is a beautifully smooth and rounded whisky. Tasting Notes On The Nose – Initially smoky with hints of fruit and fresh sea air, accompanied by vanilla and oak wood-shavings. On The Palate – Floral notes abound, followed by raisins and light spices. Malty flavours open up on the palate, with soft honey sweetness at the finish. Finish – Soft peaty tones ensure a smooth and lingering finish. Hugely enjoyable. Non chill-filtered / Natural Colour.
