Glenmorangie Malaga Cask Finish Single Malt is a limited-edition 12-year-old single malt matured in ex-bourbon casks and finished in casks that previously held one of the rarest fortified wines in the world - Malaga Dulce. The area surrounding Spain’s ancient city of Malaga produces amazingly sweet fortified wines with Pedro Ximénez and Moscatel grapes. The winemaking history of the area is one of the oldest in Europe, but sadly the popularity of dessert wines fell considerably through the latter part of the 20th century, and Malaga’s sweet wine industry nearly disappeared altogether. It’s now one of the world’s rarest fortified wines, and as such Malaga casks are almost never used in Scotch whisky. Thankfully though, a new generation discovered its delights, and the winemakers get to live another day. Glenmorangie’s Director of Whisky Creation, Dr Bill Lumsden, got his hands on a small number of incredibly hard to come by first-fill Malaga ‘dulce’ casks – the dulce being from the sweeter end of the Malaga spectrum - and imagining the multitude of sweet and syrupy tastes the casks would provide, filled them with his finest eight-year-old Bourbon matured whisky. After four years the very best Malaga casks were hand-selected for bottling. A dram that brings the sun-kissed flavours of the south of Spain to whisky lovers old and new. It's brimming with syrup pudding, milk chocolate, honeycomb and citrus fruits, along with gentle spices like cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg. This sweet, rich whisky personally selected by Dr. Bill, is finished in casks which once held one of the world's rarest fortified wines, a style that almost became extinct. Malaga wines, originating from the sun-kissed south of Spain in the area surrounding the ancient city of Malaga, exist in a few styles, but by far the most sough after is 'Malaga dulce', the sweet version. This ancient wine is so rare that it is difficult to find bottled, and its use in the Scotch Whisky industry for finishing is almost unheard of.

This is the 12 year old Sherry cask finished expression from Glenmorangie, dubbed The Lasanta, meaning 'warmth & passion' in Gaelic. It first matures in bourbon casks before being moved over to Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks for a finishing period. The Lasanta begins with Glenmorangies giraffe-high stills, which yield a deliciously delicate and fruity spirit. Next it is matured in bourbon and sherry casks for 12 years, transforming it into a mouth-watering odyssey bursting with rich spiciness and sun-drenched sweetness. It radiates with raisins, honeycomb and chocolate-covered hazelnuts lightened by cinnamon breezes. Each time you watch the sunset, you see something different – this is how it is to drink Lasanta.

After this time, 30% was transferred to Oloroso sherry casks where it spent its final days, as the rest remained in bourbon casks. After 18 years has passed in total, the whisky was reunited and bottled at 43% ABV. A thick, creamy and fruity single malt presented in a wonderfully elegant bottle. It certainly looks prestigious. The palate is tropical and creamy with nectarines in yoghurt, bush honey, peaches in cream and butterscotch. Ends on tangy oak and grilled grapefruit with plenty of dark sugar caramelised on top. Delicious expression here from Glenmorangie.

Glenmorangie Highland Single Malt Grand Vintage

Glenmorangie Signet Single Malt Scotch Whisky

"Glenmorangie at its very best." - whiskyadvocate.com The raw materials used to create this whisky are quite unusual and include estate grown Cadboll malt along with chocolate malt (chocolate malt is usually used in the production of beers like porter and stout). The whisky has been matured in new, low toast, Ozark American oak casks and ex-Oloroso sherry casks. It is the brainchild of Dr Bill Lumsden, Glenmorangie's head distiller who first had the idea over 20 years ago. Retasted June 2017... Brilliant topaz / beams from the glass. Almost floral notes of cocoa and manuka honey drizzled over hints of orange spice cake and shortbread. Starts understated and fresh but finishes unlike almost any other whisky: A peacock's tail of fantastic length and force with miniature detonations of orange zest, dark chocolate, hazelnut and sweet spice dappling the tongue. The persistence is quite exceptional. Maintains its place as a high point in the Glenmorangie stable. Non chill filtered. 46% Alc./Vol. First tasted 2008... Deep orange brown colour with golden hue. Sweet and inviting nose of Mixed Peel, Chocolate, Coffee beans and Almond biscuit. The palate is thick, luscious and mouthfilling, almost creamy. Pronounced flavours of chocolate, coconut, orange, vanilla and hazelnut. The palate shows no sign of spirit heat, even without the addition of water. Outstanding balance. Exceptionally long, supple aftertaste of chocolate, vanilla, almond and hazelnut. Hints of orange emerge then fade. Drink with chocolate or dried fruit desserts, coffee or a cigar. A phenomenal, if unusual whisky. 97 points

Lush and invitingly herbaceous, Glenmorangie A Tale of the Forest is Glenmorangie’s first whisky crafted from barley kilned with woodland botanicals. Inspired by the ever changing natural wonder he encounters while wandering in the forest near his home, Glenmorangie’s Director of Whisky Creation, Dr Bill Lumsden, brought back an ancient method of kilning barley with botanicals. In this case, he chose juniper berries, birch bark and heather flowers. A whisky, infused with natural botanicals (juniper berries, birch wood and heather) during the kilning process ̶ bringing flavours of peppermint, menthol, eucalyptus, pine, wood sap, angelica, bitter orange and a hint of aromatic wood smoke. Evoking the scents, sounds and sights of the forest, the single malt surrounds your senses with aromas of pine, juniper and coriander, laced with wisps of smoke. Then tastes of deep-green eucalyptus, lit by rays of bitter orange, drift to a slow, gently oaky finish. The whisky’s fragrant, wooded depths have inspired illustrator Pomme Chan to dream up her own fantastical forest. Celebrating the whisky’s flavours, her artwork is showcased on the whisky’s pack.
