Clase Azul Durango Mezcal
Clase Azul is a Mexican tequila brand that has been sharing the magic of Mexican culture with the world for the past 25 years. The brand was born from a dream to showcase the beauty of Mexican traditions and land. Its iconic decanter, a unique creation made by Mexican artisans, was the starting point of this dream. The name Clase Azul, meaning blue class, was inspired by the blue agave used to make their spirits and the paint on their first Reposado decanter. Despite facing challenges such as natural disasters and financial crises, Clase Azul has stayed true to its ideals and overcome adversity. In 2007, the brand founded Tradición Mazahua, a ceramic workshop where Clase Azul artisans dedicate themselves to creating the brand's decanters as a tribute to Mexican culture. Today, Clase Azul is proud to share the magic of Mexico with more than 55 countries. The brand has transformed into Clase Azul México, but it still preserves the spirit that drives it to showcase the beauty of Mexican culture to the world. Clase Azul México aims to transcend and represent Mexican culture around the world with its exquisite creations and spaces that reveal the heart of Mexico. The agaves used for Clase Azul tequilas grow in Los Altos de Jalisco, a region of red-coloured earth that creates unique properties in the plant. To create their exquisite tequilas, Clase Azul follows a long transformation process that involves slow-cooking the agave piñas in masonry ovens, milling them to extract the sugars, fermenting them with patented yeast, and double-distilling them in copper stills. Clase Azul Tequila Plata is the unaged tequila that captures the notes of the agave, but the journey isn't over yet. The tequila is matured in casks made from oak or other types of wood, allowing it to develop a more complex profile. Clase Azul also honours the tradition of mezcal, which can be made from a wide range of agave species and reflects the soil and conditions that have nourished the agave. The artisanship found in Clase Azul's decanters is a reflection of Mexico's cultural diversity. Each decanter is a creative process that demands artistic drive, technical ability and knowledge passed down for generations. The tequila decanters tell stories through their decoration, while the mezcal decanters display caps decorated with precious artisanal techniques. Clase Azul Durango Mezcal is meticulously created from the Cenizo Agave, a rare agave varietal that thrives in the untamed lands of Durango, located in the northern region of Mexico. The combination of the agave's natural habitat, enriched by mineral-rich soil and nourished by pristine water from natural springs, imparts a distinct and smoky character to this exceptional mezcal. The distillation process of Clase Azul Durango Mezcal remains faithful to time-honoured artisanal methods, ensuring that every bottle encapsulates the essence of ancient mezcal traditions. This dedication to tradition creates a unique profile that is unrivalled in its complexity and depth of flavour. With its bright crystalline appearance adorned with silver sparkles, Clase Azul Durango Mezcal is a sight to behold. Its medium-bodied texture caresses the palate, offering a sensory experience that is both luxurious and inviting. As you delve into the aroma of this mezcal, a symphony of scents unfolds. Citrus and herbal notes dance alongside hints of green olive, cooked agave and cloves, creating an olfactory journey that is as captivating as it is enticing. When it comes to taste, Clase Azul Durango Mezcal truly shines. Each sip reveals a harmonious blend of flavors, including the subtle nuttiness of peanuts, the rich sweetness of brown sugar and honey, and the earthy essence of wood and chocolate. Ripe fruit notes add a luscious touch, completing the sensory adventure that this mezcal offers. The decanter itself is a work of art, inspired by the raw beauty of black clay. Its dark and textured exterior serves as a testament to the craftsmanship that goes into every detail. Hand-carved by artisans from a small community of the Mazahua people, the design on this special piece evokes a sense of timelessness and cultural heritage. Adding a vibrant touch to the decanter is the unique and colourful cap, crafted by artisans from the Wixárika culture. This cap not only adds a burst of colour but also symbolizes the unity of diverse Mexican traditions coming together to create something truly extraordinary.

Given the chance to go to Scotland, Masataka became the first Japanese ever to master how to make whisky. He enrolled at the University of Glasgow, took chemistry courses and then apprenticed at three Scotch distilleries. In 1920 Masataka returned to Japan with his Scottish wife Jessie Roberta (Rita). The two had married earlier that year and Rita decided to immigrate to Japan to support her husband’s dream. However after returning to Japan, Masataka and Rita were heartbroken to find out that Settsu Shuzo, the company which invested in Masataka to learn in Scotland, had to abandon its plan to produce genuine whisky in Japan due to recessions after World War I. In the meantime another company, Kotobukiya Limited (Suntory), was in search for someone who could conduct whisky production. Being the only Japanese who knew how to produce whisky at that time, Masataka was hired by Kotobukiya in 1923 to direct building the Yamazaki Distillery. There he led the project and devoted himself to producing Japan’s first genuine whisky. These limited edition 2 bottle set of the Yoichi and Miyagiko has been finished in Nikka’s apple brandy casks and bottled in 2020 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Masataka and Rita’s marriage in 1920. At the foundation in 1934, apple products helped Nikka to keep the business sustainable while the first whiskies were maturing, just like Rita supported Masataka’s dream. Both of these whiskies have the delicate aroma of apples, with the expression showcasing a beautiful harmony of finesse and sweetness brought by apple brandy casks. The Yoichi single malt’s original characteristics appear such as rich malt flavors, gentle peaty notes and smokiness and the Miyagikyo single malt’s has its original characteristics such as distinctive hints of Sherry and spiciness like cinnamon.
