In 2024, we’re celebrating our fiftieth vintage with the release of a new flagship wine.A single block wine that epitomises our meticulous approach to everything we do. Every aspect has been carefully considered to ensure The Devil is the most characterful and expressive wine possible. With just eight barrels produced, The Devil really is in the detail. Gentle and patient winemaking is preferred to ensure that the wine expresses the unique site characters of the House Block. The hand harvested grapes were gently crushed and then fermented in an open fermenter and hand plunged to facilitate subtle tannin extraction. After 12 days on skins the fermenter was basket pressed and the free run and pressing fractions were combined. The wine was then aged for 20 months in 100% tight grained French oak. The proportion of new oak was kept low to encourage the continued expression of the characters that are exclusive to the vineyard site. To preserve purity and character the wine is made with minimal additions and is allowed to clarify naturally without the use of fining or filtration. Opulent layers of dark berry fruit sprinkled with roasted spices. A silky mouthfeel with moreish complexity, sublime balance and graceful poise. A wine to celebrate our heritage and herald our future.

Tasting Notes Aroma Intensely complex, dark blackberry and plums are integrated with fresh redcurrant and hints of rhubarb. Delicate savoury oak is seamlessly integrated with notes of dark chocolate and roasted spices with hints of dried herbs and fresh vanilla. Palate Full bodied, rich and balanced fruits of blackcurrant, boysenberry and redcurrants. Complex and luscious with layers of black fruit, chocolate and fresh spice. Balanced acidity with great structural tannins provide length, weight and roundness while displaying finesse and poise. A concentrated beauty that will age gracefully for the next 10-20 years.

This striking shiraz exhibits stunning fruit richness and intensity, showing lifted aromas of blackberry, vanilla, chocolate tart, cedar and smoked game on the nose, leading to a concentrated palate that displays outstanding depth and opulence. Frux Frugis is Latin for fruit of the earth and is sourced from Old Vines from the finest parcels of Shiraz from the Ulithorne Vineyards. With a palate of plums, subtle spices, structural tannin and exceptionally long length, this vintage of Frux Frugis shows the reward which wonderful weather and well tended vines can bring to a wine.

McLaren Vale is well known for its ability to make full bodied red wines, in particular concentrated Shiraz, and this deluxe wine is a perfect example.Deep, dark red. Plum, cherry compote and cedar oak aromas. Ripe, dense and juicy with loads of dark berry, plum and rum and raisin chocolate, ripe velvety tannins and toasty coconut oak. Stephen Pannell grew up in the wine industry as a member of the family which founded Moss Wood in 1967. Stephen's extensive knowledge and experience has been garnered over the years from his work with many of Australia's best wineries (including Wirra Wirra, Hardy's Tintara and BRL Hardy where he was Chief Red Winemaker from 1999 to 2003) and numerous vintages overseas at such places as Domaine des Comtes Lafon in Burgundy, Chateau Mouton Rothschild in Bordeaux and G.D.Vajra in Barolo. Other highlights in Stephen's career include winning the title of International Red Winemaker of the Year at the International Wine Challenge in London, winning the Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy at the Royal Melbourne Wine Show, twice winning the Max Schubert Trophy at the Adelaide Wine Show as well as being listed as one of the 50 most influential contributors to the world of wine by Decanter Magazine.
