The nose is full of dessert wines, a little fruitiness with a good barley sweetness. The palate is quite full with more dessert wine notes, but with cereal notes and barley, a touch of malty spice and berry fruits with good oaky tannins and little herbal notes. The finish is long with a good oaked note and more noble rot.

A new release from The Macallan and one we were thrilled to learn of. Matured in a combination of American and European Sherry oak almost 50:50, though slightly weighted towards American oak ex-Sherry casks. New oak is shipped from America across to Spain, where expert Coopers craft casks. These casks are then sherry seasoned before traveling to the Speyside distillery to mature for twelve years. These whiskies are then united with counterparts aged in sherry seasoned European oak casks. The result is, as you might expect nothing short of seamless. On the palate youll find some spice along with some green fruits though the meat of the palate remains true to style, featuring fat caramelised sultanas, vanilla and wood spice. Made and bottled in Albany, WA this complex and elegant single malt whisky is distilled in traditional small batch copper pot stills from local barley. Thjis malt is aged in American brandy casks before being finished in sherry casks. Initially aged in American oak ex-bourbon casks followed by aging in Australian sherry casks, this is a special whisky filled to the brim with character. A medium, tending full bodied whisky, filled with intense rasinous fruit, subtle vanilla character and measured savoury spice. Available in selected stores only, very limited stock.

The distillery is situated north of the traditional highlands, drawing its water from the Alness River, near the city of Inverness. This single malt is a toasty, coffee-rich dram with beautifully spice notes and a thick mouthfeel. The nose is rich in roast beans, the oily nuttiness in a fine espresso with little notes of malt, cereal followed by butter and pastry aromas. The palate is filled full of marmalade and triple sec with winter spices and fruitcake. Zesty cocoa and milk chocolate are also a feature of this very rich 12 year old.

Dalmore, located on the northern shores of the Firth of Cromarty, deep in the Scottish Highlands has been making single malt whiskies since 1839 and the bottles still bear the stag crest of the Clan Mackenzie. Their Cigar Malt Reserve is a wonderful blend of three different oak types of 10-15 year old whiskies. White American oak, 30 year old Matusalem Olorosso Sherry casks and Premier Cru Cabernet Sauvignon wine barriques. The final blend has an enveloping aroma and flavour of the finest hand-made cigars; rich and smoky and extremely long lasting.
