A ¾ tonne bell with the name of 'Angelus' sits proudly atop the cellars at Wirra Wirra and heralds the beginning and end of vintage every year on the famous McLaren Vale estate. Previously the bell rang out from the Jesuit Church in Norwood thrice daily and due to this tradition, Wirra Wirra continue to name the bell and their very best Cabernet Sauvignon every year, The Angelus. The best parcels of wine that make up the Coppermine Road Cabernet mostly come from a rare low-yielding clone which is characterized by its violet and anise perfume, concentration and great acidity.

The Nugan family is dedicated to showcasing the best vareitals from our finest growing regions. Dry warm sunny days with cool nights produced optimum fruit flavours. After picking, the Shiraz was crushed and softly bag pressed in traditional style to avoid the extraction of bitter tannins. The wine was fermentated in static fermenters, followed by further maturation with new and seasoned French and American oak prior to final blending.

We were blessed with a spectacular vintage in 2013 - the reds will be talked about for along time! Low cropping with great intensity. The old vine shiraz fruit from the 1948 planted vines always delivers, and 2013 is no exception. We are very happy with the resultant wines from this old block of Shiraz in 2013, and we hope you will be too.
