John Riddoch's first vintage of Coonawarra Claret (1890) was a shiraz-dominant wine. The Balnaves Coonawarra Vineyard was established in 1975 and is situated at the southern end of the Coonawarra Terra Rossa strip. The Balnaves family arrived in the region in 1855 from Paisley, Scotland and opened their first general store in Penola in 1858.Balnaves have used Cabernet Sauvignon grapes to make this modern Sparkling red. This wine is a blend of complex and elegant parcels from ten vintages of reserve wines, matured in a solera system.Rich and complex with cassis, blackberry and violet, combined with mature Coonawarra Cabernet characters of chocolate, leather and truffle. Ready to drink on release, this wine will gain complexity and softness with careful cellaring.

John Riddoch’s wool clip was the most highly prized wool in South Australia. He also established the Coonawarra wine region in 1890 with the aspiration of making the finest wine in the country. The Pastoralist Cabernet Sauvignon pays homage to this history as the flagship varietal for Coonawarra. Vibrant cassis, blackberry and violet notes, silky tannins and underlying cedar oak design this classic Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon. Welcome to ED.02 of our Methode Eucalypt. After 2020s raging success, we are so excited to release the next vintage. This trial tests the hypothesis that vineyards amongst gum trees take on some aroma and flavour of Eucalyptus. Grapes were mechanically harvested in close proximity to Red Gums into 1T bins. The resultant wine showed significantly increased Eucalyptus aroma and flavour. This matured into a distinctly Australian Cabernet Sauvignon that expresses the environment and place in which it was grown. Balanced minty Or Eucalyptus aromas and flavours add to the Cabernet Sauvignon’s complexity, creating a uniquely Australian wine. It is a wine that expresses terroir in the true sense of the word.

Cabernet Sauvignon is Coonawarra's pre-eminent grape variety. Our 2021 vintage is well structured with a palate of rich ripe grape tannins, supported and elaborated with french oak framework. Cassis and plum, cedar and cocoa. Great presence and complexity.
