GlenAllachie Future Edition 4 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky

The GlenAllachie Distillery, situated in Aberlour in Speyside, was established in 1967 and designed by William-Delme Evans, with construction carried out by Mackinlay McPherson. The distillery was meticulously designed to be almost entirely gravity-fed, reducing energy consumption. After Mackinlay McPherson became part of Invergordon in 1985, the distillery was mothballed until Campbell Distillers acquired it in 1989 and recommenced production in April of that year. In 2017, The GlenAllachie Distillers Company Limited was formed by Billy Walker, Trisha Savage and Graham Stevenson, who released their first core range of single malt whiskies in July 2018 and launched MacNair's Lum Reek in November of that year. The distillery opened its doors to visitors in May 2019 and has won numerous awards, including the Visitor Attraction of the Year for 2022. The GlenAllachie Distillery continues to innovate, releasing a 15-year-old whisky in April 2022 and a celebratory trilogy of Speyside Single Malts in honour of Billy Walker's 50-year career. In January 2023, they introduced The GlenAllachie 2012 Cuvée Wine Cask Finish and in March 2023, they released three new expressions, highlighting their commitment to innovation and excellence in the whisky industry. The GlenAllachie distillery is known for its impressive collection of casks, with over 50,000 casks spanning across 16 on-site warehouses. The passionate team at GlenAllachie has complete control of the end-to-end maturation process, allowing them to make decisions for all the right reasons. They use a variety of casks including ex-bourbon, ex-sherry, and virgin oak to create unique and complex flavours in their single malt whisky. They also have a range of cask finishes such as Port, Madeira, and Tokaji to add depth and complexity to their whiskies. Their commitment to quality and attention to detail has earned them numerous awards and accolades, cementing their position as one of Scotland's top independent distilleries. Billy Walker, the Master Blender of The GlenAllachie Distillers Company, has transformed the distillery since acquiring it in 2017. With a 50-year experience in the Scotch Whisky industry, Billy has received numerous awards, including Master Distiller/ Blender of the Year (World Whisky Awards, 2020) and was inducted into Whisky Magazine’s Hall of Fame in 2021. He played a key part in the resurrection of Deanston and Tobermory Distilleries and acquired BenRiach, GlenDronach and Glenglassaugh Distilleries, leading them to phenomenal success. Billy's hands-on approach is reflected throughout all stages of production, with a focus on quality over quantity. He hand-picks the finest casks to create exceptional quality whiskies to be enjoyed across the globe. The GlenAllachie Future Edition 4 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky 700ml is a limited release bottling that hints at future endeavours under the ownership of Master Distiller Billy Walker. Not only is this 4-year-old single malt the first peated release from the distillery, but it is also the first ever distillate produced under Billy Walker's ownership of The GlenAllachie Distillery. This expression has enjoyed a lengthy fermentation of 160 hours, resulting in an ester-rich and fruity spirit that was then matured in former Rye and Bourbon barrels, as well as some virgin oak casks. Made with mainland peat, this amber-hued spirit offers up a distinctively smoky yet sweet flavour profile bursting with sweet cinnamon apples alongside smoldering oak. Presented at natural cask strength of 60.2%, with no added colour or chill filtration for maximum flavour, this limited release of 10,000 bottles worldwide. This exceptional malt is a testament to the distillery's commitment to quality and attention to detail, making it a must-have for any whisky collection. As the final bottling in The Past, Present and Future Series in celebration of Master Distiller Billy Walker's half-century long career in the whisky industry, this release offers a glimpse into the future of The GlenAllachie Distillery and is sure to leave a lasting impression.

Glen Elgin 18 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Glen Elgin, established in 1898, holds a significant place in the history of Single Malt Scotch Whisky as the last distillery built during the Scotch Whisky production boom. The early years were marked by production delays and changes in ownership, with the distillery experiencing periods of closure. In 1936, it was acquired by a DCL subsidiary, marking a turning point. The latter half of the 20th century saw substantial changes, including the demolition of the original distillery and the expansion of production capacity. Despite modernization, Glen Elgin maintains a traditional approach to distillation. Today owned by Diageo, the distillery proudly retains the White Horse emblem on its label, reflecting its commitment to tradition. Situated amidst the rolling hills of Speyside, Glen Elgin is a relatively compact distillery with the capacity to produce 1.8 million liters of pure alcohol annually. Drawing its water from the serene springs of Millbuies Loch, located southeast of the distillery, Glen Elgin's production process is steeped in the purity of its natural surroundings. The distillery's distinctive identity is exemplified by its three wash stills, each with a 7,000-liter capacity, and three spirit stills, each with an 8,000-liter capacity. Notably, all six stills feature an uncommon "small tall" shape, with the spirit stills boasting a flatter pot compared to the wash stills. The unique lyne arms gently incline towards the outside worm tubs, contributing to the distillery's exceptional character. Glen Elgin also boasts one of the highest ratios of washback size to still size in Scotland, with six larch washbacks holding a 40,600-liter capacity, surpassing the 7,000-liter capacity of the wash stills. Moreover, the distillery stands out as one of the few remaining to employ copper worms for cooling alcohol vapors. With a substantial capacity for malted barley, Glen Elgin's 36 malt bins can accommodate 400 tonnes, although the distillery now sources its malt from one of Diageo's industrial sites, having ceased its own floor maltings in the 1960s. A handful of small dunnage warehouses on the distillery's grounds house casks from earlier productions, imparting a sense of history to the site. This highly-regarded Speyside distillery presents a natural cask strength Single Malt Whisky that is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. This decadent sweetness gracefully yields to a verdant symphony of leafy, green and herbal notes, evoking the essence of fennel and freshly cut grass. As the aroma unfolds, the sweetness remains, transitioning from candied nuts to the allure of polished oak and sweetened cream. With time, the fragrance evolves into a fresh and fruity bouquet, offering delicate whispers of orchard fruit, dried apple rings and baked apples. This captivating melange is further enriched by the presence of poached pears, melon, orange, nectarine and banana, accompanied by a delightful crunch of sweet pastry. Introducing water introduces a cooling, floral note, while preserving the captivating fruitiness. The palate welcomes with a luxurious smoothness and an abundance of sweetness. A delightful burst of sweetness envelops the taste buds, unveiling traces of spun honey and honeycomb, followed by the emergence of sour apples, oaky spice, and brown sugar. The fruit takes center stage, enveloped in an ethereal sweetness akin to icing sugar, with subtle notes of butter and wood at the periphery. The spice gradually intensifies, as light cinnamon intertwines with dark clove and dried orange peel. Adding water tempers the spice, revealing a tapestry of creamy sweetness, sherbet and almond nuttiness, interwoven with the allure of orchard fruit and fruit jelly. The finish, of medium-length, unfolds with a delightful dryness, as oak and woody spice gently fade, leaving behind lingering echoes of brown sugar and fleeting hints of anise.
