While Chateau Latour might be proximate to the famed Leoville estate, Chateau Leoville-Las-Cases is individually distinguished for its own unique character, and regularly is called the best wine of St-Julien. Classic Las Cases wines show incredible perfume, a result of lower temperature fermentation and an adherence to around three quarters of their barrels being new oak. The 2010 is as always Cabernet Sauvignon dominant, and shows with elegance, finesse and yet a layered complexity that draws the drinker in. Potential for this wine is immense; a life of 30 to 40 years in cellar should be considered.

Château Tertre Roteboeuf may have a quirky sounding name that at first has no connection to grand wines of Saint-Émilion, yet the wines produced here of utmost elegance, purity and not surprising for Saint-Émilion, plushness. The 1990 is a vintage for the ages and has proven to be one of the great cellaring vintages as well. Already 20 years in the bottle has not turned down the volume on this remarkable right bank Bordeaux.

Some are of the beleif that their wines are verging on the reputation of Haut-Brion and La Mission ... and with wines like this amazing 2009 it isn't hard to see why. Classic Pessac characters of red currants, cedar and asiatic spices are all in evidence in a wine that isn't the boldest of the vintage, but more classical and restrained. Pure Bordeaux.

Château Calon-Ségur is the northernmost of all the Grand Cru Classés in the Médoc and in the 18th century the house belonged to the famous Marquis de Ségur and while he was the proprietor of Lafite and Latour, it was always said that his heart was at Calon. That is why we still see a heart shape on the labels. The 2009 sees the wine contain the highest proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon in its history (90%) which has delivered probably the most structured of all of the Estèphe's. There is a core of sweetness, yet the fantastic purity and earthen nature of the back palate is what sets it apart.

Craggy Range Sophia Blend is a dark garnet colour. Lifted aromatics of dark berries, cassis, cocoa and wooden spices. Rich sweet fruit and hints of caramel are surrounded by firm fine tannins which provide elegance and great length on the palate.
