There are minuscule volumes produced of the Cirsion by Bodegas Roda (the name of the thistle which is Roda's logo) which is made from grapes specially selected for the suppleness of the tannins they deliver. Parcels selected are from low-yielding older Tempranillo vines of 45 years and more, from four vineyards. Choosing the plants with the softest tannins, this makes the wine very attractive and supple early on, but it still has great ageing potential.

The Grand-Daddy of Fernando Remirez de Ganuza's wines derived from Tempranillo. Rich fruit flavours of red cherry and hints of typical cola are dominant with a delicate acid structure perfect for long term aging.

The blend here is 85% Tempranillo, 6% Garnacha and 9% Graciano. This wonderfully complex wine has aromas of blackberries, raspberries and notes of smoke, minerals and herbs. The tannins are firm, slightly austere and yet ripe, balancing expressive fruit concentration on the palate and leading to a long refined finish.

Mount Majura, from the emerging wine region of the Canberra District, considers Tempranillo as their flagship variety. Marqués de Riscal Próximo is a new addition to the Marqués range and is a bright and fruit driven Rioja style sourced from slightly younger Tempranillo vines. Very strict parcel selection along with traditional picking techniques, this Rioja is bursting with dark blackberry fruit with notes of rich, ripe plums. Hints of liquorice and star anise also give the wine a superb backbone that is perfectly suited many Mediterranean cuisines.

Ripe plum, tar, leather and spice. The palate shows sour cherries, dried fig, white pepper and significant tannins carry the finish.

Occupying some of the more elevated land in the Canberra District, Quarry Hill's climate is well-suited to produce one of the great red grapes of the world, tempranillo. Taking a cue from Spanish joven styles of young & fresh tempranillo, Quarry Hill's expression is fresh and bright-fruited, but guided in by the chewy skin tannin characteristic of the grape variety. The versatility of the wine means its not just for tapas or other Spanish foods, it also goes great with any grilled dishes or roast pork.
