Made from 100% Scottish barley, trickle distilled, then matured for its entire life by the shores of Lochindaal in premium American oak. A new release from The Macallan and one we were thrilled to learn of. Matured in a combination of American and European Sherry oak almost 50:50, though slightly weighted towards American oak ex-Sherry casks. New oak is shipped from America across to Spain, where expert Coopers craft casks. These casks are then sherry seasoned before traveling to the Speyside distillery to mature for twelve years. These whiskies are then united with counterparts aged in sherry seasoned European oak casks. The result is, as you might expect nothing short of seamless. Glengoyne is a unique distillery in that the stills are located in the Scottish Highlands, yet the distillery stores are located in the Lowlands - due to the distillery being located on the border between the regions. The other unique aspect is the the barley is warm air dried rather than using peat smoke which imparts a delicate, almost floral nature to their drams. The 10 Year Old has flavours and aromas of fresh green apples, toffee and a hint of nuttiness; a trademark taste that is courtesy of Scotland's slowest distillation.
