Krondorf Stone Altar Old Vine Barossa Valley Grenache

At the foot of the iconic Kaiserstuhl mountain, the early Silesian settlers of the Barossa constructed a stone altar a sanctuary for prayer in their new homeland. The Krondorf Stone Altar Shiraz is a tribute to the settlers resourcefulness and resilience, which helped these old resilient vines. This 2020 vintage sources its grapes from a very small plot of elegantly aged and interesting vines in the Barossa sub-region of Ebernezer. Crafted by Head Winemaker Nick Badrice, the Krondorf Stone Altar Grenache is all about precision and focus; with concentrated aromas of black cherries with intense earthy and aniseed character leading to a palate of bramble and spice with freshly cut fig, lovely freshness and structure from subtle notes from new and seasoned premium oak barrels. Elegantly poised, with wonderful freshness. Held back for flavour development before release.

John Duval Annexus

The inspiration from the Barossas best old vine Grenache vineyards created Annexus, an addition to the John Duval's Plexus blend. Annexus is a small unique blend selected from their best old low yielding Grenache vineyards, made only in the best years.

Charles Melton Nine Popes

The original Australian "Rhône Ranger", Charlie Melton can be credited as the pioneer in reviving old vine Grenache based wines. By taking a stance against the government funded vine pull scheme of the 1980's, he has single handedly saved some of the worlds most ancient vineyards. His Nine Popes now stands as a beacon of quality amongst other great "GSM" blends.

Purple Hands Barossa Shiraz

Vibrant colour leads to a nose of interesting and enticing aromas of raspberry, milk chocolate, mocha, warm spices with French oak adding hints of vanilla. A plush juicy silky palate with fine tannin adding the textural element, flavours of liquorice and red berries add to the persistent sweet fruited palate. Sourced from Stansborough Vineyard, Williamstown. The site is around 260-280m above sea level with an east west aspect. Soil consists of a shallow red clay top soil over friable red clay with bands of quartz, ironstone and shale. The vineyard was planted in 2000 and is own rooted, clones are heritage and 1654. The vines are spur pruned to 32-36 buds per vine. The mid rows are cultivated to winter active fescue. The Shiraz was -picked on the 14th February 2017. 10% whole clusters were tipped into open fermenters with the balance crushed on top. One open fermenter was seeded with Symphony yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae/Kluyveromyces thermotolerans) with the other left until natural yeast fermentation commenced. Temperatures were allowed to reach 28C with hand plunging performed 3 times daily. After 8 days on skins the fruit was basket pressed & transferred into 18% new French oak with the balance into 1 4 year old French oak hogsheads to undergo malo-lactic fermentation. After malo-lactic fermentation SO2 was added to the barrels, the wine was then left on lees to mature for 7 months before racking, the wine was then transferred back to the same oak and matured for another 11 months. Purple Hands is a boutique wine business located in the southern end of the Barossa Valley, South Australia. Craig Stansborough and Mark Slade started Purple Hands in 2006 from humble beginnings. Just over a tonne of hand picked Shiraz was crushed and barrel fermented in Craigs shed making around 100 dozen. The name (as you might've guessed) comes from the staining of their hands, as they crushed and handled the must through this first harvest. Ever since their first vintage the ultimate aim has been to produce premium Barossa Valley wines that speak of their 32 acre patch of dirt. As the operation has grown, the duo now produce a range of wines, sourcing fruit from nearby vineyards to supplement their own vines. This includes Grenache and Mataro, as well as Pinot Gris from the Adelaide Hills.

Schild Estate Old & Survivor Vine Grenache

Schild Estate Old & Survivor Vine Barossa Valley Grenache 2019 The Old & Survivor Vine 2019 Barossa Valley Grenache is firmly in the red fruit register but at the darker end of the spectrum. Dark cherries and red currants are chaperoned by savoury spice. Slight creamy texture and soft tannins are offset by a bright edge. This isnt an over the top Barossa Grenache, its generous, layered and interesting without being indulgent. The fruit is sourced from two vineyards. The Kleemann Vineyard was established in 1985 at 320m asl on the Eastern Hills overlooking Rowland Flat and are now classified as Old Vines (35 years+). The second vineyard in the blend is the Three Springs. Established at 300m asl, the plot is adjacent to the original Schild family estate in Rowland Flat. The vines are 70+ years old Classified and Survivor Vines. At this altitude, the vines are much lower-yielding and, combined with the decades of growth, produce fruit of great concentration, complexity and character. Schild Estate then realises the potential of the fruit and presents it in this sumptuous 2019 cuvée.

Gramp's Grenache

The Gramp's label is a living testimony to Johann Gramp, the man who first planted vineyards in Jacob's Creek in 1847. This Grenache is a great example of how perfectly suited the Barossa Valley is to Grenache. Great spicy, smoky, raspberry fruit supported by a great tannin structure.
