This fine mature tawny is made from the Barossa’s traditional tawny varieties, Grenache, Mataro and Shiraz, and has been blended to an average age of a 10-year-old wine. This exhibits a sweet and mellow palate with developed fruit and oak tannin characters.This tawny wine is assessed and re-blended into a solera-based system, enabling us to consistently release wines of such high quality. Only a strictly limited quantity of 10-year-old tawny is drawn from the solera for bottling each year, and the barrels are topped up with selected younger wine.

Made from Vineyard to bottle. Low yields cool climate grapes from Nangkita Single Vineyard. Deep sandy soil and limestone beneath, rich in elements for natural aromas and flavours. Berry rich and intense formed with oaks. Richly fruited and immediately appealing with blackberry, sweet cherry, rich floral and spicy oak characters on the nose, followed by a wonderfully weighty palate offering richness with supple texture and fine tannins. Deep and bright colours with a purple hue, the Optimist Shiraz also offers aromas of lifted satsuma plum, raspberry, violet flower, with a hint of cherry oak. The palate is bursting with bright fresh blue fruits, a rich middle palate with lots of satsuma plum and dark cherries. We've been intently following Alex Head for a while now, producing a unique set eye opening Barossan wines, inspirationally drawn from his passion towards Northern Rhone Syrah. Soil and aspect is therefore every much key, imparting style and character and this new release Head Red is no exception. Judiciously used oak allows the deliciously juicy, dark and spicy fruit to shine with an impeccably moorish, savoury structure.

As rare as it is special – Morticia Sparkling Barossa Shiraz holds a special place in the Simon Sorby Adams' 45 years of winemaking. At it's heart is his most celebrated wine - The Thing Barossa Old Vine Shiraz - which forms the base wine to this sparkling, from vintages 2017, 2018 and 2019. The palate delivers a seductive explosion of rich black berry fruits with a touch of sweetness balanced by fresh acidity and a long dry finish. The expedition liquer that was added to the wine at bottling is a beautifully aged Barossa brandy spirit. This wine is made for drinking now, too good to keep, just enjoy!
