The shiraz for this wine was sourced from the best block of a vineyard in Vine Vale planted back in the 1870s. Nearly a decade ago, our extremely meticulous producer rewired and re-trellised every single vine, returning the block to its full vigour. One wine critic labelled this as ‘breathtaking’, and we think we needn’t say much more. This is a wine that shines out of the glass, as if speaking of god-like status. It’s one of plump richness, sweet fruit and a silky texture. Behind the fruit, you’ll find hints of roasted chestnut, black olive, baking spices and spicy oak. We’re in the presence of classic Barossa greatness here, a wine for the ages that will age for decades.

Powerfully intense aniseed, blackberry, mulberry and blueberry fruit aromas, with ginger, mint notes. Vigorous and fleshy with generous blueberry, blackberry flavors, excellent mid-palate richness and plentiful brambly-chocolatey tannins.

Reserve Black Velvet Shiraz 2015 This is a perfect blend of red and white grape varieties developed in the Cotes du Rhone district in Southern France. It is made possible due to both varieties maturing at the same time. They are crushed and fermented together to merge the flavours of these two noble varieties. Usually 3-5% Viognier is ample to introduce the floral aromas and contribute to the wines softness in the mouth. This wine has retained the Shiraz characters of cherry and raspberry with Viognier adding the floral aromas and slipperiness in the mouth.

Lights Valley wines commemorate Colonel William Light and his discovery and naming of Barossa Valley in 1837. Barossa Valley was named in memory of the British victory over the French in the Battle of Barrosa in 1811. However, due to clerical error the valley was misspelt Barossa. Tasting Notes: This full-bodied Shiraz features notes of blackberry, blueberry, cake spice, cocoa and hazelnut and is impressive and satisfying on the palette.

Shiraz is a variety that carries great significance in the Barossa Valley and as caretakers for some of the oldest surviving Shiraz vines in the world (dating back to 1847), we take immense pride in crafting this wine. Our highly acclaimed Shiraz has received numerous awards since its first vintage in 1990. Greenock Creek Jaensch Block Shiraz The two parcels are blended to produce a deeply coloured, powerful wine with great ‘flavour drive’ down the palate. The parcel from the lower section produces flavours more in the blue fruit flavour spectrum with silky tannin and gamey/meaty undertones. The structure of wine from the upper section is more intense and savoury spiced.
