The cool climate and rich loamy soils of the Mornington Peninsula provide the perfect foundation for the cultivation of Pinot Noir grapes. Estate grown and hand picked from a single vineyard, the fruit is transformed through a combination of traditional and modern techniques, delivering a finely textured and delicately balnaced wine. The bouquet is driving by forest fruits and black cherries, with oak provifding tantalizing Christmas spice flavours on the palette. Ample and dark fruited, with a smoky, savoury feel. Plenty of spice amid the berry fruits, with lovely earthy and graphite notes running through. Predominantly from Garagiste's Balnarring, Tuerong and Merricks vineyards, with a small proportion of Red Hill fruit. The grapes were sorted then destemmed--a small percentage of the Merricks portion was fermented with a 100% whole bunches--and fermented in small open fermenters using indigenous yeast, minimal hand plunging and spending 25 days on skins. The wine was aged for ten months in 10% new hogsheads with the balance being raised in older hogsheads. Unfined and unfiltered. Barnaby Flanders created the Garagiste label following his amicable split with Allies co-founder David Chapman (who continues with the Allies label). Barney now focuses on a snug range of small-batch wines from fruit sourced from the highly prized Merricks Grove vineyard, the Silverwood vineyard (Balnarring), and the Hugh Robinson vineyard in Moorooduc. Garagiste, the main label, is ably supported by delicious entry-level wines under the Le Stagiaire banner. Barnaby and Cam (Marshall) manage all aspects of the viticulture and winemaking themselves and a range of succulent, finely tuned and elegantly crafted cool-climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay is what results.

This Yarra Valley estate grown Pinot enjoys the complexity of six different clones of Pinot Noir originating from Europe, America and Australia. A selection of the best barrels, were put to one side to blend a complex and fulfilling wine. The perfume of spices and black cherries with earthy characters jump from the glass. The palate is voluptuous, and light as it should be, the fresh acidity of the grapes creates a vibrant fruitiness on the finish.

Our first vintage of this Northern Italian variety shows off it's cool climate heritage. Bold fragrant fruit flavours of bloodplums, hint of tobacco and dark chocolate with solid earthy tannin on the finish.

Fruit is sourced from Red Hill on Victorias Mornington Peninsula and it spends time in old oak barrels with some gentle lees stirring throughout its journey.

The Vineyard Series matches particular varieties with specific sites to gi ve you outstanding examples of single v ineyard wines. This wine was sourced from the north-facing Henk Vineyard, sited in the red volcanic soils of Woori Yallock. VINTAGE 2021 - A long, cool growing season with average crops and abundant rainfall has resulted in wines with outstanding varietal flavour and purity. A traditional winemaking approach was used to produce this wine 80% whole berr y fermentation with 20% whole bunch inclusion in open vessels for two weeks followed by a 10 month maturation in French oak barrels. Deep crimson red with a garnet hue in appearance. Strong berry fruited aromatics leap from the glass, wild strawberry and red currant transcends to dark cherry and pomegranate. Notes of whole bunch spice and tones of earth add layers and complexity that evolve over time. The palate is medium bodied with a dense and powerful core of red fruit that flows along a soft line of acidity . Well handled soft and velvety tannins are layered within the fruit . Complimentary notes of brown spice and earth add another dimension. Powerful, long and vibrant.
