Old vines Shiraz grapes were used in the making of this beautifully crafted Torbreck The Struie Shiraz. With the blend of two great regions, Eden and Barossa Valley, the flavours and aromas intensified yet still worked harmoniously together. The initials RWT stand for Red Winemaking Trial, the name given to the project internally by Penfolds when developmental work began in 1995. No longer a trial, RWT Shiraz was launched in 2000. Its style is opulent and fleshy, made from fruit primarily selected for its aromatic qualities and plush texture. Lloyd Reserve Shiraz is produced from a single vineyard at Coriole, planted in 1919 by Geoffrey Kay. It was first retained as a separate wine in 1989, and is one of Langton's Classified Wines of Australia. This vineyard typically produces a wine of great intensity and can be cellared for many years. The wine is matured in French oak with typically about 40% new.

This wine comes from a meticulously hand manicured small vineyard, that consistently produces superbly concentrated fruit. The cuttings were taken in the late 1960's from the original Penfold vineyard in Magill, dry reared and planted in 1999. This is a rare viticultural practice, and the bravery has paid off in an equally brave wine. True Barossa Valley guts and glory, this demands to be cellared long term. On the nose, you will find brooding forest berry fruits with layers of dark chocolate and black liquorice aromas, with lingering notes of dark cherries. The palate is exceptional. The concentration builds and this wine delivers as one of the best in its class. A distinct individual character has been developed and is rich and fleshy with generous flavours of raspberry, ripe plum and dark berries that are perfectly balanced with hints of kirsh, vanillin spice and savoury earthiness finishing with luxuriously soft tannins.
