Pontifex Barossa Valley Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre

"The world simply cannot have too many small, quality wine producers in the Barossa Valley and Pontifex is another to fit the bill" (Ken Gargett, Winepilot). Pontifex is owned and run by Sam and Helen Clarke. Sam's parents are two of the founders of another great Barossa winery called Thorn-Clarke. Indeed, Pontifex and Thorn-Clarke share a winemaker in the talented Peter Kelly. With their stunning 93pt GSM, youthful primary fruit of dark cherry, plum, raspberry with brambly spice notes filling out the expressive nose. A mid-weight palate is bright with generous rich fruits of dark cherry, plum and raspberry with dry dusty tannins on the finish. Hints of French oak cedar and spice round out the palate. "60/30/10% grenache/shiraz/mourvèdre, from Krondorf, Lyndoch and Ebenezer vineyards. Some whole bunches in shiraz; matured 20 months in seasoned French oak barrels. Sweet and sour. Tart berry fruits and green herbs contrast sweet fruit and sour acidity. Fine, supple tannins" (Tyson Stelzer, Halliday Wine Companion).

Hickinbotham Coffee Rock Mornington Peninsula Merlot

Mouton Cadet Select France

Mouton Cadet Select, is the result of the selection from the best parcels of highest terroirs across the Bordeaux region. Created in 1930, by Baron Philippe de Rothschild, Mouton Cadet has become a standard-setter for Bordeaux wines in France and rapidly overseas. The nose initially reveals black cherry, very ripe red fruit notes, hints of mocha and spice. From a supple and voluptuous attack on attractive fruit, the mid-palate displays powerful flavours with forward red fruit, leading into a long and spicy finish.

CHÂTEAU HAUT SOCIONDO BORDEAUX

Mechanical harvest at the end of september / beginning of october. Cold maceration prior to the fermentation according the quality of the grape. Slow alcoholic fermentation with temperature regulation. Pumping over 2 to 3 times a day then delestage. Smooth maceration during 3 weeks at 22 Celsius degrees. Ageing in cement vats with wooden dominos.

Clos Beauregard Pomerol

Clos Beauregard 2013 has an intense red colour with purple tints. The nose, elegant and complex, delivers ripe black fruit scents with a woody note. On the palate, the wine is ample and well-balanced. The attack, greedy and nice, delivers blueberry jam aromas and a vanilla touch.

There is a feeling across Victoria region that 2013 may go down as the vintage of the decade. Low rainfall and plenty of heat from December onwards meant winemakers could obtain beautifully ripe fruit, which can be a challenge in parts of this cool region.
