Sangiovese

Di Cavallo Sangiovese

Saracosa ()

Saracosa is inspired by the ‘Super Tuscans’ – a style first developed in the 1970s. These wines kickstarted the region’s renaissance and became some of the most exclusive and expensive in the world. Saracosa is from the Barbanera family estate, where half the vineyards are in the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG, and the remainder just beyond. In the 5-Star 2017 vintage Saracosa’s old vines delivered exceptional concentration. Dense, dark cherry and chocolatey tones make this a serious choice for pasta with pork ragù or bistecca alla fiorentina (steak with cannellini beans in tomato sauce).

Montepeloso Eneo

This blend of 65% sangiovese, 25% cabernet and 10% Malvasia Nera reflects a dark ruby color. The nose is opulent and intense with a predominance of black fruits and spicy notes. The profound minerality is accompanied by toasted aromas of hardwood and spices. On the palate the texture is silky and well balanced. Pairs well with grilled meat, aged chheses and pasta.

Fontodi, Vin Santo Del Chianti Classico DOC

Hentley Farm Villain & Vixen Rose

Founded in 1997 by Keith and Alison Hentschke, Hentley Farm embarked on a remarkable journey with a singular vision: to create exceptional single estate wines that showcase the distinct character of the Barossa Valley. Prior to this endeavour, Keith's extensive credentials in Agricultural Science and Wine Marketing, earned through his studies at Roseworthy College, set the stage for his pursuit of excellence in winemaking. During his years of preparation, Keith diligently explored the region, seeking guidance from local winemakers and viticulturalists who pointed him in the direction of the Barossa's red/brown soil over limestone. Armed with this invaluable knowledge, he strategically located the finest parcels of land using an old soil map from the 1950s. This quest led them to a picturesque mixed farming property nestled among the rolling hills along the banks of Greenock Creek in the western region of the Barossa. Here, they discovered a remarkable diversity of soil types, varying aspects, and altitudes, forming the foundation for their winemaking pursuit. In 2004, Hentley Farm expanded its estate with the acquisition of a neighbouring vineyard that shared the coveted natural amphitheatre of rolling hills surrounding the property. This addition further enhanced the diversity of the site, solidifying Hentley Farm's position as a single estate spanning 150 acres of pure vinous potential. Keith's background as an agricultural scientist played a crucial role in the meticulous exploration and understanding of the land before the planting process could commence at Hentley Farm. With a keen eye for detail, he delved into the unique characteristics of the site, discovering the intriguing influence of altitude differentials and variations in the east-west aspect, which resulted in unexpected microclimates. Collaborating with local viticulturalists, Keith embarked on an extensive endeavour to explore the diverse soils present on the property, employing the excavation of forty soil pits throughout the site. The extraordinary diversity of soil, aspect, and altitude presented both an opportunity and a challenge that demanded careful planning and precision in the vineyard layout. Factors such as varietal selection, clone selection, row spacing, orientation, trellising methods, and water management were meticulously considered. As a result, Keith and his team devised the concept of "viticultural blocks," dividing the single vineyard into nine distinct blocks based on similarities in soil type, aspect, and climate. Each block was further subdivided into rows to account for variations in soil, aspect, and microclimates. The vineyards were planted with a selection of grape varieties, with Shiraz comprising 70% of the plantings, followed by Grenache (17%), Cabernet Sauvignon (10%), Zinfandel (2%), and a small parcel of Viognier (0.5%). In 2002, the first wines from the property were released, showcasing the exceptional results of Keith's meticulous planning and the team's dedication to crafting wines of distinct character and quality. With his tenure beginning in 2008, Head Winemaker Andrew Quin has played a pivotal role in shaping the trajectory of the vineyard, dedicating himself to the creation of contemporary wines that embody the essence of traditional Barossa varieties. Andrew's unwavering commitment to innovation and excellence has left an indelible mark on the vineyard's evolution, ensuring that each bottle reflects the harmonious marriage of time-honoured grape varieties with a contemporary winemaking approach. With a keen focus on showcasing varietal diversity, the wines of Hentley Farm captivate with their allure and accessibility in their youth, while possessing the depth and structure necessary for extended cellaring. Andrew's dedicated stewardship has firmly established Hentley Farm as a prominent boutique winery in Australia, garnering acclaim from around the world, including the prestigious title of 2015 James Halliday Winery of the Year. Every bottle released from Hentley Farm tells a unique tale of the vineyard and the vintage, with production volumes limited by the boundaries of the estate and the conditions of each specific harvest. Beyond the single vineyard estates, Hentley Farm produces a portfolio of modern wines sourced from select vineyards across the Barossa including a range of wines under the Villain & Vixen label. As villains against convention they favour vixen like elegance, textural wines with enhanced vibrancy of fruit and varietal characteristics. Hentley Farm Villain & Vixen Rose represents the essence of a modern, dry-style Rosé that exudes complexity and vibrant, intense flavors. This delightful wine is abundant with delightful notes of raspberry, apple, sherbet, and fresh strawberry, creating a symphony of flavors on the palate. Its creamy and soft texture is perfectly complemented by a fine, well-balanced acidity, resulting in a refreshing and enjoyable drinking experience. Its fine acidity and soft texture create a perfect balance, making it an ideal companion for a variety of culinary delights. Pair this versatile Rosé with a summer salad adorned with grilled prawns, a platter of fresh seafood, or a creamy goat cheese and beetroot tart. Let the Villain & Vixen Rosé elevate your meal to new heights, leaving a lasting impression on your palate.

Mastrojanni Brunello Vigna Loreto

Nestled in the picturesque hamlet of Castelnuovo dell'Abate, a small town within Montalcino, lies the Mastrojanni Relais. At a height of 400 metres, the vineyards stretch out below offering breathtaking views of the Orcia River mouth and its surrounding landscape. The soil of these vineyards is some of the sparsest in the region, with low yields and sparse nutrients. However, it is precisely these conditions that yield the famous Vigna Cru Schiena d'Asino wine, which is highly sought after by wine connoisseurs. The estate's proximity to Mount Amiata, a dormant volcano standing at 1,738 meters, provides it with a unique microclimate. The mountain acts as a protective barrier against hailstorms and its rising currents divert storms away from the vineyards. This, coupled with the strong winds that blow around the area at night, creates an environment that is ideal for grape growth. The Mastrojanni Relais is committed to tradition and incorporates bioarchitecture in its approach to building the wine aging cellar. The use of wooden beams, chestnut flanges, terracotta bricks and stone gabions to hold back the thrust of the hillside in which the cellar is buried creates a harmonic environment that is conducive to longer periods of bottle-aging. In keeping with their commitment to tradition, Mastrojanni uses concrete tanks for the fermentation and storage of wine. The glazed concrete tanks are primarily used for grapes with advanced ripening stages, while the brushed tanks are used for micro-oxygenation purposes. With a focus on the hands-on approach, the Mastrojanni Relais selects only the best grapes and ensures that all clusters undergo selection before the wine-making process begins. The resulting wine is free from any negative organoleptic overtones, thereby guaranteeing the highest quality product. Mastrojanni Relais is a testament to how tradition and innovation can be married to produce a product that is both unique and of the highest quality. Brunello di Montalcino is a wine that embodies the essence of Italy's highest DOCG classification (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita). Made with 100% Sangiovese, this red wine is produced in the vineyards surrounding the beautiful town of Montalcino, located in the province of Siena in the Tuscany wine region. The name "Brunello," which means "brown," was given to this wine because of the color of the grapes that were believed to be a unique variety grown in Montalcino. The Sangiovese used to make Brunello di Montalcino is a local Tuscan type known as Brunello or Sangiovese Grosso. This variety has thicker-skinned berries, which contribute to the wine's exceptionally bold fruit flavors, high tannin and high acidity. The enduring popularity of Brunello di Montalcino is due to the quality of the fruit, which is carefully selected and handpicked to ensure only the best grapes make it into the wine. However, it's the tannins and acidity that give this wine its longevity, allowing it to age gracefully for a decade or more before reaching its full potential. The Mastrojanni Brunello Vigna Loreto 2018 is a wine that truly showcases the noble and straightforward character of the Sangiovese grape of Montalcino. The pebble and tuff of the Vigna Loreto vineyard provide the perfect terroir to enhance the wine's unique qualities. On the nose, this wine offers an intriguing blend of ripe red fruit notes, enriched with sweet spices and hints of tobacco. On the palate, there is a broad and enveloping entry supported by a potent and ripe tannin that leads to a silky and elegant ending. The energy and solidity of the compact tannin, prodded by a fresh acidity, lead to a finish of extraordinary flavor and length. Aged for 36 months in Allier oak barrels and then for 6-8 months in the bottle, the Mastrojanni Brunello Vigna Loreto 2018 has a bright and deep ruby red color. With a production of only 7,000 bottles, this wine is truly a rare find. Pair this wine with good company to fully appreciate its elegance. It's a wine that is perfect for special occasions or for a quiet evening at home. The Mastrojanni Brunello Vigna Loreto 2018 is a wine that will impress even the most discerning of palates and is a must-try for any wine enthusiast. Monica Larner, wine critic from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, has given the Mastrojanni Brunello Vigna Loreto 2018 95/100 points.

Ravensworth Estate Sangiovese

San Giorgio Ugolforte

SAN GIORGIO Ugolforte , Brunello di Montalcino DOCG

Sangiovese

The wonderful Italian grape, Sangiovese, is one of the oldest known varieties in the world. Its beauty lies in its ability to produce wines that are highly concentrated in flavour yet have a lighter, more approachable structure than Cabernet or Shiraz. This Sangiovese is a perfect example of this accessible, ready to drink style. The grapes were crushed to open fermenters and approximately 30% of the juice was removed to produce our Sangiovese Rose. The remaining juice was fermented on skins for 10 days. The wine was then pressed and transferred to 1 and 2 year old French barriques. The wine was racked frequently to aerate and soften the tannins. This Sangiovese is imbued with sweet cherry and leather tones and loaded with fabulous smoky chocolate and mushroom characters. The savoury tannins and complex fruit characters make this an ideal food wine. Great with any tomato based dishes.

Brancaia Il Blu Rosso di Toscana IGT

The Il Blu Rosso IGT Toscana is the flagship wine from Brancaia. This is a modern expression of that revolutionary wine, the Super Tuscan. It is made to show what Brancaia is capable of producingan elegant, complex, and intense world-class wine. A blend primarily of Sangiovese and Merlot (a little bit of Cabernet in there too), the vintage dictates which variety takes the reins. Il Blu is a swaggeringly contemporary Super Tuscan, balancing power and elegance with the slightly skittish energy of a thoroughbred. Power and layer upon layer of concentrated fruit wild herbs and spice. A modern classic.
