LANGTONS
Deep crimson. Pure red raspberry aromas with hints of cedar lead into a big full-bodied palate, laden with rich red berry fruit. Hints of licorice and cedar. Generous and big-boned with immense concentration and depth of fruit with plentiful grainy tannins in support. Drink 2019-2030+ Andrea Pritzker MW (Langton's, 2013).

As is always the case, this is no shrinking violet, but it is no behemoth either; red and dark fruits, earth, spice, sap and toasty oak are on display; the full-bodied palate is lithe, sophisticated and exceptionally long; flagships can often be a caricature of a producer, but in this case it is the elegance and the power combining seamlessly. Drink by 2030 95 points, Wine Companion.

Floral, blackcurrant, slight truffle notes, [finer, French-oaked style] –- all cinnamon spice and vanilla cream. Intense dark fruit; smooth, creamy tannin; licorice-tinged finish. More sophistication. Super-long. Really good. 95-96 points, Wine Front.

Deep red/purple colour; the aromas are dried herby and savoury, with some dried fruit nuances. Cranberry jelly, too. The palate is very drying and firm, bold and ripe, with pervasive tannins - nicely ripe, smooth tannins, but also with a touch of firmness.

The 2009 Shiraz The Armagh is sealed under cork and leads with a meat/pastrami, pink peppercorn character. It’s almost old school—there’s so much tannin and so much fruit, but it’s so good. Awesome. It is dense and palate staining, really excellent, with notes of chocolate, clove bud and cocoa nib—all the good things. It has 14.8% alcohol and was matured for 18 months in 50% French and 50% American oak barriques (225 liters).

Jim Barry
Jim Barry, named after the eponymous founding wine maker, is one of the stalwart wineries of the Clare Valley. In 1959 the late Jim Barry purchased land near the township of Clare, replanting much of it to vineyard. Under the leadership of managing director Peter Barry and sons Tom and Sam Barry the brand has gone from strength to strength. Jim Barry is best known for its flagship Shiraz The Armagh, but also produces an impressive range of wines including Riesling, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon from their vineyard holdings in the Clare Valley and Coonawarra.
